Everyone knows (and has said) that already.

A competition would be nice, however we'd need someone a bit more experienced who has the correct forum rights to organize one (Tore, Ixith etc.).

Also we don't have any news here. It shouldn't be too hard for the newsposters/admins to check other communities for events, mod releases, competitions etc. and post news about them here.

I was trying to get a C&C 4 map competition going but i've ran into a few obstacles such being busy with work again, needing people who are willing to judge it, and the fact that unless a patch is used, if there is one...i think i heard something about one being out there..., you have to play it online meaning others will see the map before it's released with results and what not most likely although probably not many...

I may end up trying to get something else going once i have time again but meh we'll see.

and you're right on the news part....i do have newsposting powers or at least used too...but i should post more for here but i didn't like posting news nor am i really active enough and search the entire C&C community enough to know what's going on for Tiberian related games in the modding communities. I only visit here and PPM so meh =/

Though I'm not skilled much in any modding part, (except rules coding, I mean who would want a contest on that, or something with a vehicle, structure, etc) I would enjoy a competition here on this forum.

I feel good that I didn't register in 2006, or 2007 because the spam I had when I first joined would've drove others away. I've seemed to be getting better since then. I feel bad for inactive forums. But I try to get more activity for some reason that I just can't think of... hmm.gif

I've been to plenty of VERY active forums but that doesn't matter in this subject.
Yes I agree, I reviewed your posts in March and April and apparently you posted every 3 minutes to 2 hours. for about 3-4 hours.

OnTopic:Since people are saying C&C is dying (which it may be), why don't we just relax and use the off topic forum for fun until TI or TO are released. Trust me, the release will get some members going.

Meh, AFAIK there's only one C&C4 mapper at PPM (there wouldn't be enough active C&C4 players even for the judges).. so it'd be better to do a C&C3/TS/RA2 mapping competition or something. Probably do a mapping competition for all of them, so we get as many members as possible to participate, although judging for multiple games might bring some problems.

There already seem to be many graphics competitions at PPM, so I think a mapping competition would be the best choice.

well the idea was to have a tibweb/ppm hosted C&C4 competition that gets advertised in multiple places and possibly sponsored or at least advertised by EA a bit. (like the OMC4 was kinda) thus we might attract members from other forums over to here to liven up our community a bit and actually make a worthwhile C&C4 section that's more than just the before release and right after release thoughts on things.

but we'll see...

Well, I've had other things to worry about like school and other things and I have some trouble sleeping, and it's affecting my will to do things. But now as the summer holidays have started I can relax and try helping out.

And I've got other websites to attend to like the C&C Comm Center and the Twisted Insurrection Website so it's kinda hectic.

Its like a chain, people start leaving and the community gets smaller and then others see them leaving and decide to leave to because it became more inactive.

Im attempting to promote moding over at CnC-comm atm (linky) http://www.cnc-comm.com/community/index.ph...945.msg5118#new

we could try something like it here, Tib web could be no1 for TS modding with a bit of TD and TW where as CnC-Comm could be the best bet for CnC1 and RA1 modding with a bit of TS and Generals thrown in (by a "bit" i mean there would be decent support and tuts and downloads which can only be found there). Its just ideas of course, it may or may not work. Im away on holiday so wont be able to reply but what do you think of the idea and what else do you think we could do?

And if CnC is dying then whats stopping us from reusing the original 3 game engines, A good TC mod doesnt need to be to big or demanding after all it just need to be recognised, a good story, 1 thearter, 2 sides, 10 units each, 8 building each...

I chalange the community to kick start modding here and at CnC-comm again, I chalange the community to grow, to expand, to write tuts and post downloads... I Dare this community to grow and prosper, one last time before we disapear...

People just need to accept the fact that this forum isn't as popular as it was back in the day. It will never regain the life it once had, period.

I don't think this place is closing down for a while, but at the moment I visit more PPM than Tibweb because all mods which I am part of keep their staff forums there.

And I agree with Aro (although I still like these forums more than any other C&C community sites).

Indeed. And really the only person who can't accept that is 'Ionizer' but that's more because i think he finds it fun to make near useless posts all saying the same thing that tibweb needs to be active again but then he hardly does anything about it....kinda funny really.

Besides This is just so much cooler....
it made me lol anyways...(similar to that topic posted on PPM that i somehow missed...)

Probably not worth getting upset about Nyerguds; few enough people will see it on these forums, and those will most likely have seen the origin.

Now, as to this thread, TibWeb isn't dead just yet, and with any luck (And a lot of work) it won't be in the foreseeable future. I still visit quite frequently, though I post rarely. And I certainly have some longer-term plans related to it, should it survive long enough, which I would guess some of you at least have seen the tease for in my signature at PPM...

I must point out however that the problem as I see it is that we don't have something to focus on, in the sense that there is only one or two big mods will be (probably) released soon and that's it. So far we have only really squabbled over what to do. What we can do is, for a start, have a site competition, like a map contest or 'make a mod in a month' thing... hmm.gif

I haven't had much to post because there wasn't much I could put any viable input into. Also, mainly due to the holidays, I've done better things to do. I have just bought a Settlers III Mission CD for example, so I played that than RA2.

[BTW: I've made two new units for Germany for my mod but every time I start the game, both players are destroyed instantly and I've somehow won. One of the units is the sides MCV if that helps the solution].

Re-lighting old mods may also help activity, like the Tibweb community mod or TS: Best of Beta.

In any case, I do hope my advice sheds some light on the subject, and I would like to be of help. smile.gif

I completely despise myself now for having a signature. I won't even advertise my mods now.

Advertise your mods in your signature, just keep in mind the forum signature rules. Make sure it's not a gigantic huge space user or memory user thing and if it's a list make it a long list typically rather than a lined list. A simple graphic work that is of reasonable size and that states the name of your mod and when clicked links to your mods forum topic or section, typically works well.

i'd love to hold a competition of some sort. Hell, I was trying to get a C&C4 map competition going by getting some organizing and others who'd be interested but i lack specific knowledge on C&C4 since i don't own it, and from what i've heard you have to test maps online, though i believe since then i've heard about a work around for that. But most of all what i lack lately is time. For example...today i woke up at 5:50AM, left the house by 6:30 AM and didn't get home until 9PM. All that time was taken up by work. Provided it was a longer day than most by a good bit. Needless to say just about the last thing i want to do when i get home is mess with internet people and organize stuff like that or when the time comes judge it.
Maybe when stuff slows down a bit i'll be able to get something going again and have more time to actually do some stuff myself. I've found that the hobbies that took the place of mapping for awhile are getting a bit boring again so i might push a few more maps out once i get more than just the weekends off. Though I do have to beat Fallout Tactics first...but i'm nearly done with that anyways. lol (been playing through the early fallout games recently)

What, you don't remember him?

Ontopic:I was wrong about the forum. It's been more lively since June.

I don't know what kind of competition we could have. I feel there have been quite enough TS and RA2 mapping comps. (for now)
TW and TT really need some. Ixith, I'm hoping you can accomplish this.
I don't see why there hasn't ever been a TD or RA1 mapping comp. There are some spotlight-worthy maps for RA1 and TD out there. For example, the maps in the TD Mapping forum.

And as to TI being released, there are only 7 or 8 days left before September so the beta will be released soon.
And TO is much older than TI, yet it never got a release date.

Really, forget TT, no one has it and plays it.

These numbers should tell you something:
http://www.xfire.com/games/cnc4tt/Command_...erian_Twilight/ (Users playing per day: 140)
http://www.xfire.com/games/ra2/Command_Conquer_Red_Alert_2/ (Users playing per day: 137)

Although Xfire numbers aren't really accurate they do give some idea about games' popularity.

TW is still well alive, a mapping competition for it could work.
