So, i am going into the 3d field...

I'm getting fairly adept at creating the models, but so far, I know less than zero about texturing...

I'd like to apply a standard texture to the box, but, when i select the bitmap, It won't apply it to the selection!!
It's starting to aggravate me.

but whatever. The stuff you guys wanna see: PICTURES!

What program are you using? I could help you with the textures if your using 3dsmax.

Righto, then what you want to do to enable textures in 3ds max 9 is...

1. go to the material editor (or M on your keyboard)
2. Scroll down to the tab that says Maps (it should be the 5th tab down)
3. Extend the Maps tab.
4. Directly Across to where it says Diffuse Color, click the button that says None
5. On the new window, double click Bitmap
6. Select the texture you want (can be in almost any image format)
7. Click Open.
8. Click the small checkered 3-dimensional box under the material library that looks like this
9. Click Apply Materials to selection (A small blue sphere with an arrow pointing to a white box)
10. Close the Material Editor
11. Your picture should show up on your model!

Extra Note: Sometimes when your doing complicated models you will need to click Modifiers > UV Coordinates > UVW Map to apply the texture. This is also useful for editing the placement or size of the texture on your model.

Hope this helped.
