Heyy last year I took my band trip to NYC. We didn't go to D.C. though -
I was in Symphonic Band, jazz band, and *gasp* CHOIR!!! (laugh all you want - we scored #1 choir out of 20+ competing schools tongue.gif )

And for your listening pleasure, here's some mp3 clips of our stuff from the event
"Minute Man" was done by the full Symphonic Band
"Norwegian Wood"- a cover of the classic Beatle's song, was done by the Jazz Ensemble.
Listen^^ you will hear a trombone solo eventually. that's ME!!! %100 improv hooah.

I took some pics too, I might post them up here some other time.

So what instrument do you play

awesome. i cant wait cause playing infront of the Statue of Liberty will kick ass.

believe it or not..i play the Flute  for a multitude of reasons actually but some are
-all the other people in there (excluding 4 of them) are hot girls (the other 4 are mostly ugly girls IMO)
-after hearing music from RPG games that used a Flute i got inspired to learn how to play it along with a few others.
-im into music anyways although at some instruments im a slow learner but i wish to learn how to play lots of instruments
-hot girls in the section

however i am also learning how to play Bass guitar....although thats going very slowly. and once i can play somewhat i plan on joining my school's jazz band

anyways my problem with this trip is that if i have someone preorder CnC3 for me and say i get it the day it comes out then i will only get to play it for a few hours lol.gif oh well this trip will kick ass compared to the sh*t EA will put out.

and if any people are wondering....i excluded some minor details like some of the breakfasts, lunches, and dinners cause most arent important and it woulda just taken up space.

anyways im eager to go on this trip. w00t.gif

well i am now back from the trip. I must say it was quite fun. and now its time to break it down and tell about each day and what happened and to show pics of each place and so on.
so:

Day 2 (when we actually got to New York)
Attached Image
just entering NYC
Attached Image
pic inside of Time Square where the ball drops on New Years.
-BreakFast at Planet HollyWood: this was ok. nothing special just a buffet style breakfast of the usual breakfast foods. the best part of this was all of the stuff from Movies around the place. This place was in Time Square.
Attached Image
ahh yes of course this statue. i had to take a pic of it. also...there were still Ice Skaters on the ice in front of it and one hit the wall and fell XD im cruel.

-Tour of Radio City Music Hall: this was quite interesting and i have several pics from here. we got to meet one of the rockettes (which if you dont know who they are then i guess you can google them)
Attached Image
Just outside Radio City Music Hall
Attached Image
The Grand Foyer inside. the tour guide got in the way of the pic >_<
Attached Image
the stage inside. it had such a nice feel to it. unfortunately i couldnt get a better pic of it. i wanted one from a upper balcony.

-Guided City Tour: this was IMO quite boring. i fell asleep several times on the bus during this. However we did see some memorable things. the main one of course being Ground Zero (where the World Trade Centers where before 9/11 for those who by chance dont know) I also have several random pics from this tour, some are funny.
Attached Image
Attached Image
2 pics of Ground Zero. Unfortunately i couldnt get any better pics of it. these 2 were taken from inside a building on a second floor. we did walk right next to it but as you can see there is a partition wall.
Attached Image
the Statue of Liberty from a far while on the bus tour

-Lincoln Center tour: this was boring and since we were late getting there we didnt have that much time. some of the things in it were cool but nothing too special IMO.

-Check into hotel: yay sleep which i didnt get on the bus ride to NYC the night before dry.gif
Day 3
-Arrive at Liberty State Park: nothing special here.....we just unloaded and headed towards the ferry that was going to take us over to Ellis Island.

-Performing at statue of Liberty: this was awesome although we werent directly in front of it. in fact we were behind it in this plaza like area. It was still a great experience though.

-Tour Ellis Island: well because the ferry took so long we didnt have much time for touring after the Performance. so all we really did was get a perfessional picture of the band in front of the statue of liberty (yes actually in front of it this time) and kinda walked around while waiting for the next ferry back to the city.
Attached Image
Attached Image
Attached Image
3 pics of the statue of Liberty all taken from the ferry as these ones turned out to be the best of the bunch IMO.

-lunch: well.....because the ferries took so long we had to skip lunch.....
-Tour Empire State building / Shopping at Macy*s: now before when i posted the schedule i had these 2 events separated. BUT because we were quite late due to the ferry thing we were pushed for time and because many of my class mates that were going on the trip were so set on going to the overly sized Macy's Store we split into 2 groups as if we would have stayed at the Empire State Building waiting to get in line they wouldnt have gotten to go to Macy's to shop. so.......me and 10 other people stayed in the line for the nice view from the 86th floor of the Empire State building while the other 72 people went to Macy's. All i have to say is...the ones who went to Macy's instead are dumb asses and im so glad i stayed for the Empire State Building.
Attached Image
the Empire State Building from a far. Taken while on the bus tour.
Attached Image
the view on the 86th floor of the Empire State Building
Attached Image
See to the left on this pic is the Chrysler Building
Attached Image
another view. notice in the top right there are 2 islands in the water. one of which has the Statue of Liberty on it.
Attached Image
another pic of the Statue of Liberty. this was taken from the Empire State building of course. This pic was taken with my camera either almost all the way zoomed in or all the way...cant remember.

-Dinner: nothing great. we ate at a Family owned Apple bees and of course werent given much of a choice on what to eat.
-Depart to go see Wicked AKA BROADWAY! : this was freakin awesome. i never thought this woulda been as good as it was. If you ever go to New York I HIGHLY suggest trying to see this especially if you like the Wizard of Oz as this tells how the Wicked Witch of the West became that and stuff. So yeah it was really good.
unfortunately there were no pictures allowed for the performance of course and i didnt have time to take some of the theatre
-Check into hotel: Yay more sleep!

Day 4 (at this point we leave NYC and head for D.C.)
-Depart to Six Flags: well......it turned out that when our tour guide talked to the Six Flag people again there was a problem. Six Flags opened on the very next day after we were originally planned to go there. So that meant we had to decide on something else to do. So.....we went to Philadelphia instead. (planned like a week and a half before the trip) there we just toured the historic buildings in Philadelphia and saw the liberty bell.
Attached Image
well i know this building had some very important thing but i cant remember the buildings name blushing.gif
Attached Image
this is THE very room where the Declaration of Independence was signed. George Washington sat in the very chair that is in the center of the pic.
Attached Image
the liberty bell.
Attached Image
this is where Benjamin Franklin is buried. IMO he is one of the most honorable Americans that has ever lived
There is irony about the pic though. Ben Franklin once said "A Penny saved is a penny earned." now notice whats been placed all over his grave stone. lots of pennies. ironic much? seeing as he was telling people to save their money and now they waste it by placing it on his grave stone.

-Dinner at Hard Rock Cafe in Baltimore: nothing great. the food was decent but not spectacular and the music they were playing wasnt very good IMO.

-Check into hotel: yet again more sleep.
Day 5 (Washington D.C. now)
-Depart for Capitol Building Tour: this tour was ok but was cut short due to us needing to get to our performance place. Although I have some hilarious pics of some of the protesters out in front of it. XD those will go into the bottom miscellaneous pics though
-.....Performance at.....The Jefferson Memorial: Wellll this was also changed....we were told that the area there floods a lot and often times right up to the steps of the Jefferson Memorial...so instead of playing there we got to play at the World War II memorial with the Washington monument just off in front of us away. Another great performance (well i guess it was great lol)
-Tour Smithsonian Museums: borring provided we had to stay with chaperons the entire time and my group stayed at the Air and Space museum the entire time. which was like.....4 hours
-Depart for Dinner cruise which will be on the Potomac river: this was pretty cool. The actual meal was a salad, then on to meat lasagna with sides of green beans with almonds on them and steamed carrots, then we had desert which was either Apple Pie or Chocolate Mousse. The Lasagna was pretty good although iv had home made lasagna much better. however the lasagna pieces were HUGE! no joke they were.... After the dinner there was of course dancing......which woulda been good and all if they woulda kept playing the same music they had playing while we were eating dinner which was the slower jazz like stuff in which you could slow dance to......but once people finished dinner and actually started dancing they switched the music over to crap stuff. so i ended up just sitting down the entire time once that sh*t came on.
-after the 3 hour cruise we board the buses and head home.....which goes through the night: another joyful time on the bus over night. well....at least this time the stupid people on my bus didnt decide to keep every body awake all night like they did the first time.

so long read...i tried to keep it short for you and i cut some stuff out...but its hard making a several day trip like this to be short when described. So this section of this post is going to be used for the random pics.

anyways that was my trip. i had lots of fun.

***NOTE I still have lots more pictures to show and possibly other things to add. I will add it later as I don't have enough time right now plus i think there are enough pics for now (21 pics uploaded) and i dont want to cause a lot of lag right now.***

sounds like you had a blast Ixith!

Yea, a bazillion times better than the one I took, We had to keep it in about $250 budget, which was about worth a 3 day trip confused.gif
Didn't go up in any buildings, our tour was at NIGHT, out hotel had to be less expensive, so it was actually in New Jersey maybe an hour away (in good traffic)
I saw "sweeney todd" in Broadway, the one about a homicidal barber wacko.gif Well done, but yea I wanted to see "wicked"--too expensive though

Well I'm glad yours turned out way better than mine.

If you get your hands on the recordings from the concert, upload em, I'd be glad to hear how it sounded!
(BTW did you say what place your band got?)

well as far as i know, provided i didnt even bother to check or pay attention to it, we didnt make any recordings of the performances. Also the performances werent contests.
however if you wish to kow the songs we played they were: (not in order of how we played them)
-The Star Spangled Banner (how could you not play this at the US monuments)
-Salute to America (another patriotic song which is actually a medley of 3 songs)
-Hang on Sloopy (well this song isnt patriotic but i do believe Ohio State University plays it a lot in their pep band and since OSU made it to the finals we had to play it. [but then OSU had to lose by 9 points >_> ])
-Take The A Train/ Chattanooga Choo Choo (not patriotic but this was a mix of those 2 songs that we played in our marching band show this past football season)
-Crazy Train (yet again not patriotic but this song was cut from out marching band show and since we play it fairly well we played it on this trip)
-Baba O'Riley (this is by The Who originally and if you watch the CSI shows then you know this is the theme song for CSI: New York and was also in our marching band show the year before so thats why we played it.)
-God Bless the USA (back to patriotic songs. obviously this is a well known song in the US)
-America on Parade (another fairly well known patriotic song which is usually as the name suggests played for parades)

we also played our bands cadence at New York which if you dont know what that is its usually what the band plays when marching into the football stadium.

and sorry BloodReign i didnt get ya a " I <3 New York " T-shirt hell there were too many people walking around with those shirts. and no i didnt get a Hard Rock Cafe t-shirt either tongue.gif
