GDI Mission: The Training Grounds

Description/Overview: Commander, Nod has taken siege to an area used for the training of our forces. We believe it is a preemptive strike to our development and an attempt to steal recruits who may be unsure of their decision to join into our global effort against the Brotherhood. We need a quick counter to this threat. As of right now only the main recruit station in the area is left in contact with us. We need you to make a beach landing, force your way to that station and once that area is secure to go out and secure the other bases and then eliminate any Nod presence left in the area.

Well, if it were a "training base," I'd think it would be something like Fort Bliss, Texas. (Last time I checked, it's the largest military base in the world charged with training soldiers).

A few pointers, I believe your recruit station would be a barracks. It's where all the recruits stay, considering that they're recruits and don't own apartments or live in housing. Recruits usually get shipped off to other bases after basic. (Assuming your training is basic training).

Just a suggestion. If you're going to make a base for the training of troops, try modelling it off Fort Bliss. Not only is a very large military base, it also has many "civilian" elements, such as housing for the troop's families, huge stores such as the Commissary, or the BX/PX. I mean, it's on a massive scale. Seeing Nod lay siege to such a huge facility would look amazing.

well my first thoughts for a layout was to have a few smallish sized areas strewn throughout a somewhat mountainous area but having that area include a little of everything. So dirt roads, paved roads, a city area, some small village areas, a lake, a forest like area and what not.

The Main little station to get into the area, in my head, was going to have a small place for dropships to land and also be the base area with a radar, then it was going to include a normal barracks and a Civilian armory, which would get renamed to something a bit more fitting, along with a couple or a few power plants and of course component towers of kinds.
The other stations were just going to be small specific areas in different terrain places and perhaps to also include 'firing ranges' more of a place that there aren't any civilians in this map area as it's really just a place for the soldiers to get experience in all aspects of land combat. land as in i wasn't really planning on making an air field area anywhere.

I was thinking Nod would take their main control in a spot in which was suppose to simulate a GDI siege of a Nod base thus it would be like 'this is not a drill' to the GDI trainees. And then that you can't, or at least wouldn't be able too, destroy the Nod area until you have secured all the small training facility areas so that it's safe to bring in more to fight with. Then once you secure those areas you gain the ability to train infantry and units to wipe the Nod area out.

I suppose my main influence to this was the very opening bit to the GDI campaigns after General Solomon says "Get me McNiel" and you see him out climbing and then looking in a mountainous area and in a lower elevation off in the distance you see a bit of what looks like a GDI station. (about the 1:40 spot of the GDI Intro) but you can't really tell how that place is set up since it's a background look at it and you're not seeing everything that could be in that training facility.

But i'll check out pictures of Fort Bliss and what not and see what I could do with the Bases/Stations.

Note that Fort Bliss is huge. It's a city within itself, with mountains and vast open desert.

I dunno. I told you about it so you could get some interesting ideas.

I'm in a mapping mood. So, if you like, I can do it for you. Currently I am doing my single player map pack so I can spare time and do this instead. smile.gif

Though only if you want to...

well i did plan on opening this up to anyone who wished to contribute after i had a first product of at least 4 maps 'finished' and presentable to be called a release. Though if you wish to contribute now, then perhaps we can come up with some more mission ideas and you can start on those and possibly both of us make a version of this idea. As this is one i'd really like to put some of my effort into when i get into a mapping mood again at some point.

so i had a good bit of free time yesterday and a bit today and even though i wasn't really all that in the mood i put down some work for this map based more on my original idea, things are still subject to change. see first post for the finalsun pics i took.
