Another amazing thing from the graphics god... But personally, I think its too simple. I think it needs to have more of those little tentacles waving around randomly under it, and the "head" part doesn't really convey the dimensions properly, if you get what I mean.

this is the remap color. So it can be used as a buildable unit.

not from me. I just saw the movie and thought this would be good unit to place randomly on maps or for those who have a Cabal/Scrin side in their mods.

Just an idea: the building could be immune and invisible. It has LightningRod=yes and after an Ion storm hits these buildings with some lightings, they undeploy and rise from the ground.

It has 5 tentacles at the engine section. In the movie they only expanded to capture humans. (and when they were out of control they waved around)
The rest of the time they were quite short, like in the shp.

What do you mean with the head part? I think the proportions are ok, and the size is in TS dimensions so it doesn't sticks out too much. It has the size to fit with the civilian buildings.

Just wondering why I had never thought of that.

Plus, in the old book about War Of The Worlds, those walkers had lasers, orange I think they were. Be nice if you could make a version with that laser? there is no way to have a standing anim. so only while walking it could have some lighting bolts shooting out randomly and this would look odd imo.

I did some research while trying to find a highres pic of the movie tripod and found some pictures of the old 1953 movie and of the earlier book version. Both looked kinda weird if you compare them with the modern style of the new movie version. In the old movie they also had a scorpion tail with the laser at the end (yeah Kane was there smile.gif ).

So the concepts are too different to combine imo, but if i'm wrong you can also show a picture of what you mean.

I thought about a simple laser with a blue inner line or a bright blue railgun with some bright blue particles which disappear very fast.
I'm still trying to figure out if it has a turret. With a turret it won't have a firing anim. However without a turret there won't be any spectacular anim too, since in the movie they had none too.
But i tend to do it without a turret, because i can make then much better walk anims where the head is moving too.

Hehe. I didn't mean like a standing anim. I meant like it would have electricity shooting out after it got hit by lightning, so after it got hit, as it's getting out of the ground, the lightning shoots out. Also about the laser, I was just thinking about a front mounted laser, so it would have to face its target before firing.

thanks jadems and Lone Wolf807 for the pictures. Can you post a link where you found them? However my Tripod model is almost complete and i don't think i'll change it, since i want it to be similar to the new movie version.

i'll maybe add some dust to the anim, but since i want it to be like the movie raise anim, i don't add electricity lightnings to it.
It has 2 arms with a laser at each one. So there is no need for an additional lasergun.

Check the link, it has an additional "http://" in it. Anyway thanks for it. Too bad that there are not more pics.

White pixel in front of the unit would look odd. Like Snow or a graphical error, since they can't be transparent they won't look like light. sad.gif

btw, does anyone else noticed the similarity between the movie blood veins that the aliens planted and the TS veins? wink1.gif

Isn't there someway to manipulate the alpha light post logic (or whatever it is called) to have it look like the lights, or is that not possible?

needs still some work on the leg movement, the dirt after impact, some parts falling off and some explosions, which actually cause it to loose its balance.
btw, which direction it should face in the final render? (because we can have only one direction for the death anim)

You could just make the top explode, so that it doesn't look weird when it dies and suddenly snaps to face that one direction, and the legs and remains of the torso just flop to the ground?

I wanted it to look like shown here in the final takedown of a Tripod.

But your idea is also really good, so i think i'll make this one too and the player can decide which one they use.

Yea, I understand

If possible, perhaps you could make the tripod spin once or something before it falls. The spinning might get rid of any strange "snap" effect it has when it dies. I don't know how good that would work or look, though. The torso explosion is just simple and effective, but the spinning might be what your looking for?

You could keep it like that but add enough smoke, fire, etc. so as you really can't tell which way it's facing when it falls. But that's only my thought on it.

You should have the center leg (The one that lies in the center after the thing has fallen) snap forward, just like you bend forward after you have been hit behind your leg. You could also have the tripod wobble from side to side before balancing on one leg, and then it falls. Sorry, but I'm no good at this kind of stuff. Maybe in the future... nah.
