 MY GOD!!........wait a sec....what god is that........

anyways i thought the memory leakage i was having from Firefox was a lot...but compared to this my 76,895 KB is nothing ohmy.gif

i think FireFox 2.0 (which is what i have) must hate us. i mean seriously there is no way 1 tab can run that much memory usage up.

and yeah i presume he opened the Task manager up as its my guess thats were he found that.

but seriously.....436,938 KB of memory usage is just.....not right

FF 2.0 is a kind of a bastard. It eats up very much memory. The highest memory leak I got in FF was around 350MB, but I had around 20 tabs open, some with flash. I think it's time for a downgrade.

Mine typically slurps up 80 MB on a cold start, taking an additional 15MB for each tab I open, which for me isn't that bad.

The apparent memory leak in Firefox isn't a bug, it's a feature. If you've been browsing lots, it keeps the last few pages of your history on each tab saved in the RAM so they load quicker if you return to them. The more RAM you have, the more pages it'll automatically cache like this. It's quite possible that you've simply had a few highly intensive pages loaded to cause this, but then again it's a hell of a lot of RAM. Anything below 120MB is generally normal for 512MB of RAM, basically, so you could probably double it for 1GB and again for 2GB, depending on how much memory you have.

If you can't recreate the memory problem then don't worry. If in doubt, just turn off any possibly bad extensions. It's always best to keep as few running as possible anyway.

FF 2.0 uses about 69 Megs now. Which is about 1,7% of my total memory

and yes. That says 1.7% (one-point-seven-percent)

In any case (for other people anyway) - is there a way to turn off/tune down this caching-feature?

Haha, *sigh*, that's one of the reasons I use IE...
If FF2 uses 439.938KB (lets look, 429MB), wow, that's 168% of my avaible memmory. Even when it's only 120MB its 47% of my memmory.

IE6 only uses 37,4 MB (at this moment, 2 panels opened)

well you should get more ran if all you have is 256 lol

and it isnt an issue when im just browsing, but when im WoWing that eats up my gig (alot of thrashing when minimized), so opening up a browser window just makes it that much worse)
should get around to upgrading that soon tongue.gif

Im sorry but FF is a terrible browser anyway, its incredibly slow and buggy... most of the advantages that seem to have been buzzing around the net about the browser are simply wrong

I would use IE7 over FF

However I use Opera which is a brilliant browser and IMO the best, and its free so go download it!

I really disagree with the leaner part.
Opera is too bloated to be useful, in my opinion. At least with Firefox, it does exactly what you want.

Plus, Firefox 3 passes the Acid test, meaning it is very standards compliant. smile.gif
(Yes I know Opera passes it too, but Opera doesn't always handle CSS well...)

I heard that there's a lot of bugs in firefox actually.
If you are having trouble you could set up virtual memmory a little (careful) Also. how much memory does your computer have ?
You could try setting up virtual memory by: Start- my computer-right click-properties-advanced-perfomance settings-advanced-virtual memory-change. It might get better setting it up a little. But be careful. I do not take responsbility if something happens.
Or you could use opera or another explorer

Meh, why are people making a fuss about whether to use Opera or FF? Just use one or the other. Remember that when Firefox became popular, the point of it was to have a better, more secure browser than Internet Explorer that was expandable and customizable to a level IE couldn't touch at that point. The way I see it, Opera is the same way, just different in several obvious manners.

That's probably your problem. You shouldn't have that big a pagefile relative to your RAM. Reduce it to 512MB or, at most, 1GB.
