After all of those years of research, the conclusion was that the Tiberium in this particular area of the world has a lot more value than around the rest of the planet. There is not much Tiberium around the canyons, but Nod and G.D.I. Forces have been sighted in the narrow canyons trying to get hold of this Tiberium.
