Well I got my Dell Inspiron E1505 for about $780 last November, and it's worked excellent
-Intel dual core- one gig RAM, 70 gigs ROM, XP and vista compatible, full wireless access, 4 USBs, CD burner, the basics, and if you want anything more, you can do it when you order the laptop online.

Get a desktop instead. You'll have a hard time finding a laptop that is genuinely good for playing games. My laptop (bought in 2004) could only just play games of the time (HL2 with most settings at low, Doom 3 with everything at low) and can't really play much from the last year or so. Unless you really need the portability (REALLY need) then don't spend money on a laptop. If you are going to get a laptop, buy the most expensive one you can afford (and check the graphics card to make sure it isn't something utterly crap). You can either spend £1,000 getting a relatively good spec laptop that will be obsolete in two years or spend a bit less on a desktop that will last for four years.

I've to agree with Clazzy.
I've to say too, that the best thing you can do is make a homebuild system.
Then there aren't any weak places in your hardware that you don't know.
If you want to spend some money, there won't be any weak places in your hardware at all.

You can also compare a laptop, but I'm not the right person who can tell you how to do that.
Desktop PC is just a piece of cake for me. At least, I think it is.

Then listen to Clazzy and step away from laptops. For the same price that you can get a laptop that will run new games at decent frame rates, you can build a FAR better desktop. (If you want portability, consider a SFF [small form factor] case to build with, especially one with a carrying handle.)

Also, a fun Inquirer article to read regarding this (bookmarked since I liked reading it so much): http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=41039

I got to agree, laptops are for school tongue.gif I'd buy a better desktop for home use, a cheap laptop for school work.

If you want to play alot of games than i suggest as others to buy a desktop, but if you only want a few, then theres nothing stopping you from getting a laptop, you only need a decent one. I got a laptop, and i play CnC 3 on windows vista, high settings and 1280x800 and it works fine. If you want to know the specs then the basics are: intel dual-core 2 gig of RAM, nVidia GeForce 7400 Go and ROM...can't remember and i cant find the manual but...i think its something like 120, upgradeble to 314 or so.

I also like that link. I already mailed it to a friend of me that also wants a laptop for gaming AND school, and some other administrative stuff

Idd... You can try it, but you won't reach the 50% overclock that I reached with a normal, boxed CPU cooler wink1.gif

nope. laptop's BIOSs dont have OC options, or they are inaccessible. You can try with Software, but chances are slim. overheating is a bitch too.
good luck trying to find a 3000$ laptop that can beat my 1500$ PC. Hell, even a 5000$ laptop wont come close.
