The Global Defense Initiative:

Spacial Colonies:
The last refuge to the civilized world, as GDI calls them. Developed to flee from tiberium, as a platform for global surveillance, and to research for a last hope.
These huge stations have the size of an entire city, sometimes even cities, they have artificial gravity generator thanks to the Tacitus, which also allowed to anti-gravitational engines on aircraft and hovercraft.

Space Flight:
By the extensive research of the tacitus by Dr. Aurelius Venport, the Global Defense Initiative was able to developed gravity engines and used them to make space travel an inexpensive reality.
Several space ports were build during years of peace, but still afraid of Nod, the GDI maintained the monopoly over this technology.
The only publicly known fact about this technology is that altered tiberium crystals are used for controlling the engines.

Tiberium & the Tacitus:
This little artifact contained the information for eradicating tiberium, but it didn't contain the information for restoring Earth, which was the most difficult task, too time consuming, and too expensive to be afforded with the small amount of resources left on the planet.
Tiberium has been growing way faster in the latter years, but it's less concentrated in resources, the meaning of this, is that Earth might not be possible saved.
With the use of the tacitus technology, GDI was able to slowdown the growth of tiberium, but not to reverse it.
Several other data was found inside the tacitus, many of them pointing to a possible extraterrestrial origin; as most of the scientific community believes, tiberium must be the doing of an advanced alien specie.
