Well some of you may have seen the similar topics at Revora, DerelictStudios, and PPM.

I'm actually surprised that there was only 1 hit result for the word "snow" in the Tiberium Wars section on these forums, and that result was from February.

TS had a lot of missions and maps that take place in northern latitudes where it was snowy. Hammerfest being an example.
Really it was (and still is) a disappointment that there is no snow environment in Tiberium Wars.

While I can understand that it requires a second set of skins for all models in the game and they had a ridiculous deadline (EA rushing at its finest) that probably prevented them from making said skins, they already had snowy ground textures from Generals and BFME. (If you didn't know, BFME1/2 re-uses some ground textures from Generals, so does Tiberium Wars)

Anyways, as I said it is a disappointment. Perhaps EA will add the snow environment in the expansion pack, perhaps not.

Until then (or possibly even after then if EA doesn't add snow) the community will have to fend for themselves like they always do.

There are a couple of initiatives out there somewhere to do this, and DerelictStudios said they would offer a reward for a fully-functional snow environment (they didn't specifically say it but I'm assuming that includes snow versions of units/structures/objects or I probably would have had an offer already) and I even wrote up a tutorial for it, but there's still one main problem:

Adding new textures makes it a mod, and therefore only people with the same mod can play together online. So unfortunately it doesn't seem like it would be worth it to release it as a stand alone texture-pack mod.

So really, this is only useful for large total-conversion mods or mods that add a significant amount of content to the game; mods that lots of people will play.

Anyways, I'm working on a mod that I hope will improve Tiberium Wars to something better (used to be a Tiberian Twilight / C&C Incursion total conversion but I don't have the resources to pull that off anymore, and at least 2 other mods doing the same thing are in the works already). To this mod I will be adding new terrain textures including a full snow environment.

Fruits of my labor (note, most of these are from Zero Hour and BFMEII and modified with Photoshop. All have had normal maps created for them in accordance with Tiberium Wars ground textures[except for most of the BFMEII snow textures that already have normal maps]):

Any thoughts on snow environments and why they haven't been discussed here yet?

Those look very good. Those screenshots really make me anxious for a good TW mod (and with good I mean it changes prettymuch everything about TW; looks, gameplay, voices...).

Yeah nice work right here cool.gif
Hopefully EA will get their rear ends in gear and get the SDK together, so we can do more with this

Those look very nice, I look forward to being able to play with these soon to make maps. And i agree, EA do need to get their act together and release the SDK. (On a side note, can anyone tell me how hard it is to code in zerohour as I might learn to mod TW and the coding is supposed to be like zero hour).
