I have experimented with this alot and by experience I know that in FA2 it is possible.

I am talking about the ability for a mapper to give players buildings from the start. I still have some problems with this in Final Sun, because it does not let you pick a player for the ''change house'' trigger, however in FA2 it does allow it.

Can this be fixed in FS by looking in FA2's files? Because it would give mappers a much greater perspective on how to build the Multiplayer Map.

I really would not know where to start looking, but would there be someone that would be able to find the problem

im pretty sure this is a Finalsun lacking thing and has nothing to do with TS itself.....its just that FinalSun and FinalAlert2 are practically the same program just that one is for TS/FS and the other for RA2/YR obviously. and since they are pretty much the same program all of the bugs were fixed in FinalAlert that were in Finalsun or so it seems to me.

now im not sure how easy/hard it would be to fix what you want....or if its even possible.....but yes it would be very useful and allow more option for mappers especially that want to do one of those.....screwed but still have a small base in multiplayer maps.

the only people i could think of that may be able to find and fix this would simply be Yoshi, and maybe TitanMarkII as for basic things but the problem could very well exist much deeper than in the inis provided for Finalsun. so i dont know. it may be worth looking into all the ini files for both FinalSun and FA2 and see how they differ and make changes to the FinalSun ones to what you see in FA2.

like i said in the Disabling Sound thread i may have a look into all the different inis in there to see if i can gather anything and possibly fix anything........may be awhile though and i may not be able to do anything myself.

I just learned some more,

1)- It possible to choose players 4-7 ( players 5-8 ingame) for the trigger, but it refuses to work ingame. In a blanc map except for 2 light towers and waypoint 4 and 5 it was possible to use those waypoints for startingpoints instead of 0 and 1 ( 2 player map ), but when the change house trigger triggers, I get an Internal Error. This means that it is most likely that TS could be the problem.

2)- I checked some things in INI files, and its seems that the reason that you can't choose player 0 till 3 is because you can also choose 0-GDi, 1-Nod, 2- Special, 3- Neutral, and they are Identified as 0 till 3 in the INI files. Players 0 till 3 are also identified by those numbers so I think that everytime you select player 0 ( thus FS inserts a 0 in the INI ), the next time you check it the game thinks its GDi because he looks in the INI file and thinks that the 0 stands for GDI.

3)- Those are long stories

Actually I'm pretty sure it's TS and not FinalSun. Tiberian Sun just doesn't support players with a "pre-built" base. What is possible is adding some units/structures on the map and give half of them GDI as owner and the other half Nod as owner. Now, when the map starts, the player that picks yellow and GDI will get all of the buildings that have GDI as owner and the person who picks Nod and Red will get all buildings with Nod as owner. Well, I'm actually not 100% sure if this works, but I know it works when it's only GDI or Nod.

I think it works with GDI and Nod... You should test it and if it works, you could set up a 1vs1 game where you or opponent pick GDI and yellow and the other picks Nod and red.

Yes, i've seen that as well, to a certain degree.
I've attached a map in which this is used (yesss, more ugly online maps - no, I did NOT make this one!!)
The map is 7 vs. 1; all vs. the player who controlls the visceroids that are in the middle.
In final sun you'll see that the viceroids are set to the gdi house.
Every time the "gold" player was on "gdi" side, that player would own the viceroids.
When the gold player was nod, red got the viscs.

Further than that though is only guesses.
I could bet though that if one player was gold & gdi then they'd start at waypoint #0 owning all of the "gdi house's" stuff,
and if the other player was nod & red that they'd start at waypoint #1 and own all of the "nod-house" stuff.
Just thought I'd post that, to whatever help it might be

hmm if your right about it being a problem within TS and not FinalSun then maybe this can be thrown into the Wishlist for ETS? smile.gif

anyways i think the only problem with the method of throwing in GDI and Nod stuff is that what happens when you have 2 GDI teams or 2 Nod teams? i do believe that it will sometimes crash.....not sure though. but probably the best way you can set up a thing like this is just put in neutral bases and maybe see if you can set up AI triggers specific for that map so the AI will capture those neutral buildings? but then the problem with that is.......GDI would be able to take Nod stuff and have duo tech.

oh and...about checking into the FA2 inis........i forgot the application installs itself so i dont think it really directly uses any inis that get thrown into a folder like Finalsun  or at least i wasnt able to find them......so thats out........

Done that and it works, but everytime the Ai is the same team as me ( A la GDI vs GDI /Nod VS Nod ) you get an Internall Error. And as far as I know, colors do no really matter that much in this trigger mania just teams.

Also I find it very strange that it does allow the structures/units to be changed in owner if the triggers are based on GDI and NOd, but not if it player 3 and player 4 ( you can't choose players 0 till 3 in the trigger )
In my eyes it's either very hard or impossible to find this Data and change it.

This is one of the buggy methods to get such things to work. However, I do not advise using it at all, potential crashes are bad features, especially for a mod with new maps. ermm.gif

And this has something to do with the way TS handles this, not the ini files of FinalSun. Sorry, this can't be fixed without C&CVK and ETS.
