Originally posted by Creagor: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well, In the light of the recent topic HERE I decided to give ORCAcommander some help, teach him what I knew kind of thing. But then it hit me - Why not make it into a tutorial that the public can use too? So I did. This tut will cover basic editing of the TS GAME.exe and Language.dll. Note that to tell you evereything would take forever, therefore it should be taken as a starting point, rather than a full database of knowlage. Once you have followed the steps in it it is up to you to use common sense and the basic rules Ive set down to help you. This is my first tutorial on anything (ever), and is on a diffucult topic, so forgive any mistakes. It is in word because it contains images, and is easier for me to write offline. Tutorial includes: - Suggested programs for editing - Changing file names that TS searches for - Changing the drop-pod infantry - A note about the tags and command line options in TS - Editing the dialog boxes (adding text etc) - Changing text in game, like loading screen text, SW charge text, "game over" text etc... - Changing the IE message to one that shows the debug file (useless really, but looks nice!) - Changing the EXE's cursor/Icon And as of the 8th of july: - Changing the menu text and colours for a new side colour - Fixed most of the things TShyper mentioned Maybe more in the future? If I add anything (upload a newer version), I will tell you. Any questions? Just ask and I'll try to help. Download the DOCDownload the PDF

Okay, here it is. There are two .zip files, one contains the Tutorial in .doc format (Tut_DOC.zip) and the other has the tutorial in .pdf format (Tut_PDF.zip). Also, as a follow up to this tutorial I suggest you check out bittah's tutorial, which it related to hex editing: http://www.tiberiumweb.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=12

Certainly, always glad to help. One thing: What version of HDD are you using? The tutorial uses version 2.3, but a new version has come out scince then. The new version is horrible to work with, even the search function is stupid. If you are using the new version, try the old version. Download it from HERE.

Another tip: Make always back-ups. Make a copy of the game.exe and begin to change that one, not the original. When you done something, and it works great: Make a back-up somewhere of that working .exe file. When you've updated the copy, and it works fine, you can also update the back-up. When you do something verry stupid in the .exe, you've still alway's your backup

QUOTE (Roani52 @ May 28 2007, 10:14 AM) When you do something verry stupid in the .exe If this does not happen by the way, you are doing it wrong (Or you are just good at following the tutorial) I'm also using this post to add a link to THIS, which is something you can try out once you have got the basics.

Hmm, are you 100% certian that it is game.exe and not sun.exe? If it is, you could try another hex editor, maybe youwill have more luck there. There are many around, I would reccommend either Hex Workshop or WinHex. Bittah Commander uses 010 Editor, and though I have never tried it myself, I trust him that it is good.

010 Editor. I use it too, and it works exelent to me It has many features... If you want 010 Editor, just ask me. Those guys who created 010 Editor have a new version. You need the old version, unless you want to stop editing after the 30 day trial.

I dont know if TFD is affecting it, it may well be. Send the TFD version of the exe over to me in a PM and I'll check it out for you.

QUOTE (^Rampastein @ Jul 24 2010, 08:47 PM) I assume you have TFD? If you do, download the No-CD version of Hyper's Waveclass fix and try modifying it. The Game.exe included with TFD contains Safedisc and has been encrypted. Ok I know it's quite an epic bump but there is one? I can't find such thing.
