to solve this we need to renew the IPB license or move to free and open source software like phpBB or SMF.

We tried that, twice actually.

On a side note, I bought Red Alert 3 today for Xbox 360. It was in the discount bin for $10 LOL.

Sounds like the same idea as a chat room that was proposed awhile ago, except a chat room would actually work better. However, the majority of members were against a chat room and seeing a lack of support meant I wasn't going to waste any time working on it.

I'm not totally against setting up an IRC server, but it would only be if people show enough support.

For "general discussion" chat we have the "General Discussion" board to post in. Unless I'm missing something with your idea ... please fill me in.

Since i see you mods and admins here, may i point your attention to this old and wrong tutorial.
I've already written a new one a while ago here.

It would be also nice if you could make links shown in green again and not only underlined. wink1.gif Right now i have to manually change the link-text green.

Ok, I moved the wrong tutorial out of there. I will look into changing the link color.

Also, I played Tiberian Sun last night for the first time in over a year ... and I missed it!!

QUOTE (The DvD @ Apr 21 2010, 06:22 AM) *
Well..

I feel TibWeb has always been plagued by problems from it's conception onwards. Mod creators always had to pick one forum to focus on, TibWeb or PPM. And because of certain things in the past (Felix fucking us over with TumSun so we had to create TibWeb, downtimes, forum troubles, but perhaps more importantly lack of interest from our admin team and a lack of staff) things just got worse and worse really. I've made it clear on multiple occasions that if anyone is enthousiastic enough they can take over TibWeb, but perhaps I should have simply made a news topic about it to draw more attention. The offer still stands really. I'd still pay for the hosting and the IPB License (well, mostly). I just don't have the time nor the interest to really work on this site anymore. I don't play the newer CnC games as I think they're crap compared to the old ones, and my interest in TS is all but zero.

That said I'm all for a mapping competition. I just don't want to organise it myself smile.gif I'd help ofcourse by setting up the necessary forums. There's a decent chance I might be able to acquire some pretty nice prizes. (I actually won them myself recently but didnt receive them yet, they're very CnC / Kane related.)
The competition would need to be fairly well advertized though as we'll need to attract many mappers from other sites aswell in order to have a decent amount of people competing. I'm sure PPM would help us out by posting updates in their news section. I don't visit any other sites myself, so I don't have any more suggestions tongue.gif

You have my full support DvD.

The official name for Command & Conquer 4 will be ...

C&C: Tiberian Twilight

Did you see that one coming?

Thanks to 2kool4u526 for the heads up!

Don't think it's possible without some heavy modding. All of the icons have to use the same image.

Some new information has come forward in the past couple days from these two magazines. What I have for you here is the entire article in PC Gamer UK, as well as new info from CD-Action Magazine. Let's begin.

CD-Action
- C&C4 score composed by James Hannighan, Timothy Wynn (RA3) and Jason Graves (Dead Space).

- It has been suggested that XP might be earned not only by scoring kills, no further info however.

- Initially C&C4 will sport 80 units, all of them upgradeable.

- Unit upgrades will change unit appearance.

- C&C4 eco will be based on a node system similar to RA3. The player will be able to build Refineries only in pre-determined locations.

- There might be a second resource. No hints as to it's nature so far.

- 5v5 won't be the only multiplayer mode.

- In 5v5 each player will be given a specific objective: guarding a location, harvesting XXXX credits etc..

- C&C4 will be powered by an upgraded version of the RA3 engine. No hints as to the extend of changes made to the engine.

- A separate team within EALA is working and improving the pathfinder. This includes weekly reviews of their progress by project supervisors.

"Zaptagious" over at the official C&C fourms posted up this information from PC Gamer in Sweden. It's from an interview with Samuel Bass.

- The resource system is not yet decided on, but the solid fact remains .. there will be NO harvesting.

- Work on C&C4 began after the release of C&C3: Tiberium Wars

- A new dynamic system called Strategic Environment, accommodates the game to make it fun and challenging regardless the level your gamer profile is.

- Samuel Bass admits the multiplayer system and online browser has been pretty bad and that it's been too complicated to get into matches. A completely new matchbrowser with bigger possibilities and constant chat windows will be included.

- The player will be more involved and present in the games FMV movies; The camera will be an entity in the world.

- Decisions made in the campaign will be harder to make to create a more memorable story.

- They ask about Frank Klepacki but they can't answer that right now, but they say they have exciting plans on how it will be controlled. (If they didn't have him in they could've just say so, but since they can't talk about it it seems like they have at least thought about it.)

- They want to keep down the system requirements

I never noticed this before, so I think it's important that I make sure others know about this. In an interview with Jeremy Feasel, one of EA's top designers on C&C 4, he mentioned this point.

QUOTE
Q: Is there a population cap? What are the numbers (X/100) seen above the units on the UI?

A: The numbers shown above the units tab indeed represent a population cap. In C&C4, players are limited in the number of units they can make by Command Points, which allows the player to make smart decisions about which units they want to produce depending on the current state of the battlefield and limits single-unit spam and snowballing of attack power.

Ouch.

Click Here for that full interview, as well as discussion on this point..

I'm not sure how I missed this one, but a recent discussion on the official C&C forum has brought this to my attention. There is one very troubling point which may upset the community, so I will make sure I highlight it below. Here is the interview.

Q: If I'm facing a higher-level player, will their units be more powerful than mine?

A: Absolutely not. As players progress in levels, they will unlock units, structures, and upgrades that allow them to affect the game world in different ways. New units change the counter scheme or how the opposing player must use their units. Higher-tier units are not simply lower-level units with increased attack power. Consequently, a low-level player will have everything necessary to counter any unit in the game.

Q: Will C&C4 include upgrades?

A: Yes! All classes in C&C4 have a wide array of upgrades available to them. This includes global upgrades and upgrades achieved through other means.

Q: Will C&C4 use the SAGE engine?

A: C&C4 is built upon the same engine as Red Alert 3, with many additional improvements. More information on the advancements made to the engine will be forthcoming.

Q: Has the pathfinding been improved in C&C4?

A: A significant amount of additional code work has been undertaken to ensure that pathfinding in the presence of ten large Crawlers will not fail under extremely stressful circumstances. The pathfinding team continues to refine the pathfinder on a week-by-week basis.

Q: Will there be any base building in C&C4?

A: The defense class can indeed lay out a full base, which includes a wide array of different assault and support structures.

Q: Will there be epic units, similar to Kane's Wrath? Are the Crawlers epic units?

A: While there are many powerful and earth-shattering units in C&C4, all units ascribe to the counter scheme and can be defeated quite handily by even a low-level player's arsenal. While all Crawlers gain weaponry, the power of the Crawler is in its ability to produce units and structures, and you will find that they should not be left unprotected for long.

Q: A recent article noted that the units being used missed against moving targets, is this interaction going to play a major role in the game?

A: There are a large number of interesting unit interactions in C&C4, nearly every unit is different! In this particular case, the units being used had a chance to miss while moving themselves. This interaction strongly rewards the player for stop-micromanagement (stopping the units right before they fire), while enemy units can make use of the interaction to kite the assaulting player, forcing them to miss.

Q: Will there be any penalty to losing the Crawler? Can the Crawler instantly respawn?

A: There are several penalties to losing your Crawler during a match, which are currently in flux as we continue to fine-tune our gameplay. Currently, there is a 20-second respawn delay when the Crawler is lost, and any upgrades in progress must be restarted. This allows players to harass player tech and map control by specifically targetting the Crawler.

Q: Is the Mammoth Tank going to be in C&C4? Is the large walker the Mammoth Tank?

A: The large walker seen in the released screenshots is the Mastodon. The treaded Mammoth Tank will indeed be making a comeback but has not yet been shown. Stay tuned!

Q: Is the large, crashed ship seen in recent screenshots the Support Crawler?

A: Nope! The Support Crawler is similar in size to the already-seen Offense Crawler and has not been seen yet.

Q: Does the Crawler gain experience and level up during a match, like a hero?

A: While the Crawler can gain veterancy, just like a unit, all of the experience gained on the battlefield is gained directly by the player, allowing the player to unlock additional units, structures, powers, and upgrades, once the battle is complete.

German site CNC-Inside.de got a sneak-peak at the latest copy of Gamestar magazine, which won't be available until tomorrow. We are given loads of new information and 4 new screenshots scanned from the magazine.

- Lead Producer is Michael Glosecki, who was part of Dune 2's QA team.
- The campaigns will be linear, parallel for both sides.
- The Scrin will be part of the storyline.
- You will play as a renegade military leader, who's fighting against Kane and his GDI allies.
- The name of the GDI campaign is "The man who killed Kane"; the Nod campaign is "Everything has to end".
- GDI's clean slate is going to be desecrated
- FMVs are going to be darker and more serious, but mostly still in first person. Here's an example...
QUOTE
We're rotting in prison, when a man in a suit appears, opening our cell door, and asking us to follow him. Shrieks can be heard in the distance. Just when we're halfway through, an inmate next to our cell grabs us on our collar (With the camera following), of which a guard catches a glimpse, getting his bat ready- but we manage to break free before a row would have started. "You should get used to that" comments the suited man with a smirk on his face. Eventually, he leads us to a desk, handing us a briefcase- "Kane is at the scrin tower", he mutters, "You have ten minutes".

- Only in Defense class will you be able to build structures, such as bunkers and defense towers, including the Obelisk of Light.
- Nod towers can be burrowed.
- Offensive class gets the most powerful tanks, aircrafts, have access to the Ion Cannon!
- There is no Navy.
- You choose new units, upgrades and powers from a tech tree.
- Upgrades you purchase for your crawler are not persistent.
- You collect Tiberium from the Core Network with the help of rigs, which slowly merge with the outlets and provide a steady stream of credits.
- Difficulty in co-op mode depends on your level.
- Objectives vary from class to class, but are shared in co-op.
- Destroyed crawlers are replaced, but not instantly. You can choose where your new crawler will arrive.
- EA will use their own online service -- no more Gamespy.
- Matchmaking for 5 vs 5 matches is possible.
- You can create temporary clans to keep track of other players.
- Offline mode is currently being considered, so that at least campaigns could be played without the use of an internet connection.
- Dynamic music; GDI's is orchestral/militaristic, Nod's is religious techno interspersed with choirs.
- The crawler can carry up to 4 units.

Here are the screenshots.

Here is more information with regards to the screenshots (again, courtesy of CNC-Inside.de):
- There will be Tiberium crystals for visual purposes.
- The interface your currently seeing is an early version and is still being developed.
- All upgrades have visual implication.
- Mammoth tank is back along with the Mastodon, a new version of the Mammoth walker.
- Engineers are able to repair vehicles.

Actually my source was not the C&C Forums for this. Sorry to have gotten your hopes up, bud. Obviously your information is being passed along and getting mangled along the way. Is that my fault? Nope.

Instead you could try being a contributor instead of an asshole about the whole thing, and you'd probably make some better first impressions too. smile.gif

Details are now online following the release of the First C&C4 trailer yesterday. First and second place qualifiers will receive a version of the C&C4 Beta before anybody else, and of course first place will award you with a lifetime of "that name was my idea! "

EA will rate submissions on Creativity, Originality, and Relativity to the C&C4 story, and the winning name will be chosen by the C&C4 development team.

This was posted on James Hannigan's Myspace blog, but apparently it was removed very quickly.

QUOTE
Work is underway on Command and Conquer 4. James will be collaborating with composers Jason Graves (Dead Space) and Timothy Wynn (Red Alert 3, Warkhawk) on the score for the game, currently in development by Electronic Arts Los Angeles.

I'm unsure as to why you have basically copied and pasted information provided elsewhere, and then edited information to your liking. 80 units per side? yeah no.

-Tyrael

Excuse me? All my news sources are public and legit. EA has many news feeds that allow for public discussion, including Facebook, Twitter, and of course the official C&C forum. Open your eyes and look around.

If all you did was join to criticize a site with over 12 years of history in the community, well there's a red X located at the top right of your browser. K Bud? Keep up the accusations and I will gladly show you the door.
