One thing I'd like to have in this mod is TW's design for the Nod War Factory.

I would see it as totally possible, as long as we can get the door anim to cover the unit

the DOOR ANIM is represented in grey, and the dotted outline represents the unit behind it

I think that's a bit iffy. It would look cool and all, but I don't think it would suit the 'Warfactory' characteristics.
I'm use to them as huge buildings above ground.
Maybe as a Repair Bay where the unit goes down to get repaired?

Actually there is some old Westwood concept art (which is probably what EA used) that looks very similar to this... Only difference is that it says it's a service depot.

the idea of a bunker warfactory is more suitable for the Rebels imo.
They use burrowed/ground units while the scrin fly.

I just got an idea for the scrin rebel warfactory.
it would be sorta like the nod one except when it opens up the top unfolds like flower petals and the unit comes out. then it folds back down

It could be a service depot on the surface and underground is the factory. but then you wouldn't be able to repair/build at the same time

EDIT: to elaborate on the petal idea
on the surface it would be a flat bulbous pad, then when it opens up all these silver petal things lift up and reveal the unit. it rolls off and the thing closes back up

I think instead of having the building go up and let the vehicle out, just let it be tall and open a gate and leave the unit out?

I love this idea. IMO this is the style the rebels could get. And it really could work.
Can you make a small drawing of the factory for the stages, closed, middle open, open? (like TB did)

To enhance this, the Rebel powerplant could be a petal shaped solar power plant, where the petals are the solar panels. Or the petals are mirrors, reflecting the light into a central solar collector, that has a cool light animation.

I actually don't think submerged factories are tings that belong in a mobile (or temporal) base (which is really what the base you build yourself is). Stationary bases could have submerged factories or maybe even a huge underground construction (which you'd have to infiltrate in a mission or something; so you'd have an inside mission like in Red Alert), so I think it makes most sense if the underground constructions would be rare for Nod.

I imagine that the Scrin (during the assault on Earth only though) would have a couple huge mothership near earth, which would teleport units down to whatever platform has been built to receive those units (so let's say the Scrin can only teleport things between 2 of their structures). On the Scrin planet the Scrin should have the same factories that are present on those motherships, so on the Scrin planet you'd see the Scrin constructing units in the traditional way.

I agree that having underground (or at least partially hidden) buildings makes the most sense for the Scrin rebels, so giving them a partially submerged war factory sounds like a good idea smile.gif

well my design could also be a teleporter. you don't actually SEE the unit coming out of the ground, it just unfolds like a flower (with like 20 petals to reveal the unit. so it could be a teleporter.
(oh and the rebel scrin would definitely have underground bases.)

screw this im not gonna be in any hamburger eating contest.=3 1) cause i may like hamburgers but i know id lose XD and 2) cause well i can only eat like 3 home cooked hamburgers...........now if they were white castle then id go all the way with it XD

anyways back on topic.

im liking those ideas. and i think Lightstorm's concepts there are pretty close to what im reading in this topic.

That petal thing is cool, but shouldn't only half or so open because oh that tower thing behind it?
But the problem is will TS let the animation work right and look good. Because in Team Black's idea the animation covers the unit, but in the petal one the unit would seem like it comes out of now where, at least how I'm thinking of it.

Both ideas work. An important point to know is, that the Door always covers the leaving unit. So the Door should be big enough in both ideas, to cover the unit while it is still closed in frame 0.
So it is just a proper size adjustment for the door.
But something that may not work in the petal idea is, that the petals open that wide, that they almost lie on the ground and the unit walks over them.(like lightstorm drew it) Because the door/petals would still hide the unit.
So the petals should open until they stand vertical (90°) and then the petals slide in the ground.

And to avoid, that it looks like the unit is coming out of nowhere, the petals could stand in an angle of 45° together while closed. (forming something like a tent or a closed rose bloom) They don't have to be that flat.

The petal thing is cool, although I'm kind of leaning towards portal-type stuff for the scrin WF, barracks etc.
even if it's on the same planet, the units could be zapped to the portal from a main base on the planet or something.

(Also, if we're going to ever have a mutant faction, we might be able to give them some of the rebel's tech, since they're very similar)

About the War Factory, I was thinking, what if the petals swent INTO the bay? that might work better..
(i also noticed, the petal thing might create some overlap problems, as shown in the pic)

Even if we make the animation overlap, the Vehicle coming out of nowhere (not rising up with the petals) would just seemm strange.

the vehicle is under the petals, they fold up and reveal the unit.
also: TB, your little picture thing needs MANY more petals, I was thinking of giving the thing like 3 rows with 20 petals each. just couldn't draw it.

As they open, they spin around. When the unit is out, it spins the other way and goes down.

I;d prefer the original one Team Black said in the first post, it's the most logical. But just give it a unique rising anim instaed of a plain cylinder raising up.

Oh and I don't think Warfactories are allowed to repair. It never did when i tried to give ammo to tanks...

here is my idea:there's two slats in the ground. when the unitdeploy animation starts the two slats slide open then a spiral will spin up and it will look like a metal curtain. then the pedals or spikes(or something)spin down revealing the unit. it drives off,then the pad the unit was on sinks down and the hole closes again smile.gif
