TiberiumWeb.org Community Forums _ Spotlighted SHPs/Other images _ X-Mech Calendar (+Update)

Posted by: Lin Kuei Ominae Nov 28 2006, 01:24 PM

Hello and Mechy äh Merry Christmas.

Only few days till it's December and so i decided we need a X-mas Calendar. Every day from the first till the 24th December hides a unit behind a door and every day i will open a door.
So i hope you like this idea and of course the SHP-units i will offer you this way.

Each of the following threads is for one of the 24 days and holds one unit for you.

Use the units like you want, but credit me if you use one or more in your mod.

Nothing more to say, except wishing you all a good Christmas Time.

\EDIT
the calendar is complete, so here now all units as a big package.
Preview of all Mechs:

In the zip is an art.ini and rules.ini showing some example code allowing GDI to build all units, the Nod units too.
Also included is an ecache07.mix file that contains all shp's.
Calendar MechPack:  LKOCalenderMechs.zip ( 1.67MB ) : 16274

\EDIT
Update

i found some small errors, things i disliked and corrected them
-these are the fireanims: those were played backwards ingame. (fixed for JENNN/JENNG, BHAWKN/BHAWKG)
-the walk anims for the small mechs jenner and firefly: those were not very "round" and the duration a foot was on the ground was to short (only3 frames long a foot was on the ground) (fixed for JENNN/JENNG, FIREFLYN/FIREFLYG)
-the jenner model also had a slightly bigger missilepack on the left side compared to the right one: now fixed to symmetrical size
Old Jenner: new:
the art.ini entrys remain the same.

i've also added an art.ini showing now for all Mechs the correct FireFLH's for primary, secondary and on some even tertiary that is not used (TS doesn't allows third weapons), but shows where the weapon should be if implemented (think on ETS)
sorry denmon and corsair, but i have to say that yours were total off. tongue.gif
-the FLH's for the Colossus are still a bit off, due to the fact that the turret centre isn't in the centre of the building, and turretoffset doesn't work for buildings. For a quite good solution take a look on the code example at the colossus post here (the 24th christmas eve post) (PBarrelLength=224,TurretNotExportedOnGround=yes and TurretOffset=-32 tags removed)
zip with the fixed units and FireFLH's:  LKOmechupdate.zip ( 236.75K ) : 14350

Door 24 Christmas Eve
the GDI/Nod Colossus heavy Artillery
The Colossus is a big and well protected artillery mech that uses a twin artillery turret to destroy enemys on a long range. But like the Jugger it needs to deploy.

Colossus Icon GDINod + preview of the deployanim GDINod
Colossus ingame GDINod
Colossus Zip with icon and unit-shp  LKOcolossus.zip ( 206.27K ) : 1482

The units design was originally taken for a GDI unit, thus having the Titan similar headlights, but i decided to make a Nod version too, so both sides can have this new unit.
The unit has an active animation while deployed and a shp-turret. I haven't made the barrels as a voxel like the Jugger because i'm not good in making voxels look like shp. Thats why the shp barrels are fixed to 45°. If someone makes voxel barrels, i would make an extra turret without the shp barrels.
I hope you still like this unit and of course...
Merry Christmas and my best wishes to you all.

No. A while ago Lin Kuei Ominae PM'd me asking about this topic. I am allowing it, as a voxel will be posted on each of the "blank" posts, meaning they wont be useless. It keeps them organised to be one after the other, rather than in randomly spaced posts, so thats why they are one after the other.

As you may have gathered, I am allowing this topic, and told Lin Kuei Ominae through a PM it would be allowed, so its not his fault. Any problems with this topic you may have are to be taken up with me.

On a lighter note, good luck with the voxels, and merry christmas (for when christmas comes anyway).

Posted by: Corsair Nov 28 2006, 07:39 PM

That's a lot of units...

Posted by: Team Black Nov 28 2006, 07:48 PM

1 unit a day for a month??
are you sure you can keep up with it? (and still have good quality stuff?)

..or is it already pre-made?

Posted by: wondle_donkey Nov 29 2006, 07:27 AM

im guessing their already premade. because unless he has absolutely no life whatsoever (which i doubt) i dont think he could make a quality voxel every day for like 25 days. i sure as hell couldnt

I don't believe I've ever seen the splitter mech before, looks tough

Posted by: Ixith Dec 3 2006, 01:02 AM

i must say all of those look very nice so far. although seeing a mech for nod is kinda different. but i like them. i also like how that the 2 Nod mechs youv already revealed both have the same colors used and make them fit with each other. very nice. ^_^

i seriously think you could make your own mech mod really easily as you are very good at making mechs and youv got a lot already and it seems you are very handy with the ini files to.

i like what youv revealed so far and i think i will be pleased with what is to come in the days to come to. Keep up the good work smile.gif

wow the nod mech is incredible..it actully looks like Nod style, not just GDI w nod colors...
There's ONE puny imperfection though, and that is that the selection square is a little off kilter lowish...might need a slight hva adjustment.

Yggdrasil is right about the name. It is definitely the Sunder Mech. Sunder means in English: break apart or in two, using violence. Another good mech. At this rate we might have enough for someone to make a great mechwarrior mod.

these are shp units, so they have no hva. to move them higher you have to edit all the frames of the shp file and move the unit some pixel upwards,
but i think it is ok. because if i move it more upwards i think the player can not select it very good. you click on the main body but nothing happens due to the fact that only the legs are in the cell and the main body goes upwards into the next cell where you cant select it.
but if more people think it is wrong, we can speak about modifications after the calender is complete. (lets say next year, for having some vacations  )

hmm, sorry that is not in my list. maybe i make it later as a standalone unit.
to bad that we cant set the turrets max turning angle, else i could imagine to make the head/cockpit as a turret for that too, that turns only for 10 or 20° to left and right. (like in SW force commander)

but then again i can see that you are probably overloaded with work still id think. i just hope that there arent too many recolorings like such.

but i must say the recolorings do look nice to wink1.gif good job.

cant wait to see the new ones

Posted by: Denmon0728 Dec 6 2006, 10:35 AM

Duh, i kinda guessed this beacuse 24 mechs are ALOTS of mechs. Still smart though ^_^

Posted by: Lin Kuei Ominae Dec 6 2006, 10:38 AM

there were a few reasons for that
1. i haven't enough mechs in the manual from my MW3 game (and to find pictures from all sides of a specific mech isn't easy)
2. i didn't knew which mech i should have made for each side. (to prevent people coming and say, no this mech isn't good for Nod please make it for GDI again and vice versa)
3. it reduces the amount of work (one 3dmodel with 2 different textures)
4. there are still more then 12 different units.

At least i think it is the whole calender that counts and not each unit alone.

Posted by: Corsair Dec 6 2006, 04:53 PM

Yea, I don't mind the recolored mech's

The new GDI themed Thor looks as good as the other in my opinion

and have played mechwarrior 2 mercs. if you want ill post the english names of any mechs you post if they are not the same when they are tranlated.

I was the same way. All I cared about was how many PPCs I could mount on a mech. The story was just one of stupid bravado, greed and paranoia. I really like the mechs so far. It doesn't make sense for anyone to be complaining about re-colors. We are blessed to have someone actually care enough to make mechs for our use. The Daishi and Mad Cat will really work well in Tiberian Sun, since we can only mount two weapons on a mech at a time.

QUOTE
The Timberwolf is the Clan name for the mech. Named such by Clan Wolf.

The Madcat is the Inner Sphere name for the mech. It is named this way because, according to the tale, the Inner Sphere targeting systems couldn't decide if it was a Marauder or a Catapult when trying to classify it, so the MechWarriors started calling them Madcats.

http://ars.userfriendly.org/cartoons/read.cgi?id=20010804&tid=109860

Battletech lifted some mechs from Robotech. In Robotech there was a mech called the Glaug Battle Pod which was called the Marauder in Battletech.

In later versions of Mechwarrior like Mech Assault 2 for the XBOX it refers to different variants of the same mech. The only difference between the two is the weapons they mount. The Mad Cat is armed with dual PPCs as its primary weapon, while the Timber Wolf has dual Gauss Rifles.

no seriously, it doesnt took that much time, since i have optimized my work flow quite well. So it is possible for me to create 1 mech in 4-6 hours if i work nonstop. (but that doesn't happen very often, so it took me about 3-4 weeks for all the units)

And again thanks to all, for their very good comments.

1. i haven't enough mechs in the manual from my MW3 game (and to find pictures from all sides of a specific mech isn't easy)

There are exactly 24 mechs in MW3 if you use the ones from the Pirates moon expansion. 25 though if you use the Elemental, my favorite 10 ton mech

Edit: Where is the Puma?! and the Avatar?! and of course the Elemental!

Posted by: Lin Kuei Ominae Dec 13 2006, 10:19 AM

i have no expansion, only original standard MW3.

these are the 3 that i dont do. sorry.
Because the avatar looks ugly in my eyes´, the puma isn't very different to my already released behemoth so i thought it isnt necessary.
And the elemental isnt really a mech for me. in addition i didnt have a picture from this one in my manual. (even if i would make this one, wouldn't it be as big as a normal infantry? to small i think)

I haven't thought about that. But i see some problems with the limited number of pictures you can post there in one thread.

I think it would be better to post there only a link to this forum. If i have to do some modifications/improvements on some mechs i dont have to edit them on 2 forums.
At least i do like TibWeb more than PPM

I think i'll make it his way: after christmas i post there a mech package with all mechs on PPM and a link to this forum for the preview pictures. And here i'll make the mech package too and insert it in the first post.

this i can
yes those were meant to be GDI and NOD logos
the GDI one was easy because of gold isnt remap
but the Nod one was a little bit work, because i had to edit each frame by hand to turn the remap red colors into non-remap red.
i hope they look good. due to the small size they cant be seen very well.

Where is the difference between the Timberwolf and the Mad Cat, i only wanted to know? Do they only changed the name or are they 2 different mechs looking almost the same?

The clan omnimech timberwolf Was designated as mad cat by the inner sphere. So in essence both names refer to the exact same mech Same with the the clan maddog being called vulture( my favorite mech by the way) Vary awsome collection of shp files you have LKO.

Also I Would like to say hello to everyone i'm new here to the forums & hopefully Will be posting some of my own voxels for the community soon.

Note: I R NEWB

Posted by: Lin Kuei Ominae Dec 21 2006, 08:44 AM

vxl and hva you can simple add into the tiberian sun folder. But all calender-units are SHP! they need to be inserted in a ecacheXX.mix file where XX is an unused number. To insert the shp files in a mix file you need the "XCC Mix Editor" that is part of the XCC-Utilities.

Question: Would you consider doing a special release Mech for Christmas Day? If so, can I PM you the Mech's name to make sure you havn't made it? Wouldn't want to ruin the surprise if you decide to do this! ^.^

The Nova/black hawk, Super nova & nova cat Are three differant mechs with two similarities:
1.they're all eneregy based weapon mechs. The nova & supernova Are laser boat mechs, where as the nova cat focusess on PPC's (particle projetion cannon)

2.they're all clan mechs.

here is a pic. of a Vulture, Nova Cat, & Bushwacker by the way. Also a Black hawk cut out pic. Found it at http://ppc.warhawkenterprises.com/1.html. ( I'm just trying to share what I have learned my self so far so no offence intended)

*Looks at severall other pictures of Super nova* My Mistake LKO the supernova does have square legs after all. It's been a wile since I looked at one I guess. So the champion Is star leage tech eh? go figure.. thats probly why I didn't rconize it. But I'm still learning about Battle Tech myself anyways. Started almost 2 years ago now & between Four to six years on C&C. Can't wait to see what's behind the last two doors.

If you ever decide to do Infantry .shp such as battle armor, let me know & I'll send you what ever pitures I have &/or can find.

no problem. perhaps they are much more detailed but no picture shows the legs this way. (remember the difference between the MadCat on the MW3 manual cover and inside; round legs on the cover and square one inside)
btw: http://www.mechwarrior3.org/mechwarrior3com/overview/mech_champion.html are all mechs shown i used for the calender

i already thought about that, but when i look on my smallest mechs, i think a battle armor is so small that you cant see any detail; only some spinning pixel.

The final mech is awaited with anticipation... What will it be?

Oh... and Warhawk PPC is a very good site, been there a few times to gather inspiration for my own mech designs

One more thing, here is me in MechWarrior Pirates Moon, just having owned a couple of Annihilators (100 tons) in a Strider (40 tons)!

Posted by: Vintriaz Dec 23 2006, 02:56 AM

It's ok LKO I started off with MW4 & became a bit obsesed with it. but i have no regrets.
I understand the difficulty of making .shp & hadd little to no sucess myself mainly due to my lack of skill & patience. so I tip my hat to you.

This is a bitmap image my work so far mostly a cut & paste & resize for a laser repair bay but I managed to make a rapair anamation for it.(like I said, this is just a .bmp image of the 3 part .shp)
 lancil_repair_bay.bmp ( 120.29K ) : 346

El_Serpiente: beautiful just beautiful That's grand news, One question though, AI opponets or or other people? either way I'm certain it was a chalenge.

now back on subject ( I think... ) The fire fly, neat little mech that I never paid much heed to it in the past though.

Posted by: adarius Dec 23 2006, 04:49 AM

Here are the possible Mechs remaining...

1. Avatar
2. Orion
3. Owens (Dang...it does look like the jenner...)
4. Puma
5. Shadow Cat
6. Strider

I wonder which it shall be. =)

Edit: Oh dear lord! D= Vintriaz, please don't use the Obelisk in that. The base looks fine I guess....but try to make it look more like an actual Mech repair bay. The only one I'm familiar with is the one from MW4, the red one that looked like a bunch of scaffolding. It desn't have to have opening and closing door, but something similar to it might look alot better....really.

 yeah, the thing with the timezones is quite tricky. For someone they came early, and for the other too late. I posted them between 0:00-1:00 o'clock in my timezone, because this way everyone can see them even in the early morning.

I was one of those lucky early ones. Being in Pacific Standard Time Rocks!!! I would only have to wait up about 11pm to see a new one. tongue.gif Thanks again for all the wonderful mechs LKO.
If you do make that massive 125 ton mech though, it would probably make sense to change it to either a two legged or another four legged base instead of the awkward 3 legged one. That mech right now looks as if it might as well be an unmovable turret rather than a mech. The legs are too close together and too big for it to move very fast at all. It may as well jump everwhere like a pogo.
I really like the last mech you made LKO it looks awesome. The concept reminds me of those armored personnel carriers that carry mortars. Only this one is massive and heavily armored. I think this calender was a great idea. I hope that you will continue to make shps every so often.

 yeah, the thing with the timezones is quite tricky. For someone they came early, and for the other too late. I posted them between 0:00-1:00 o'clock in my timezone, because this way everyone can see them even in the early morning.

Hah! I knew it! beacuse i used to check for updates about that time and we have the same timezone.

The DvD made a news post about it on the new years tongue.gif

but yeah maybe it should go into the spotlighted section?

Posted by: IcySon55 Feb 9 2007, 07:46 PM

Just a tiny note and add-on to this thread, the "Guerilla" mech is called Bushwacker in the English games.

Posted by: Nods Viper Feb 9 2007, 08:14 PM

Has anyone else noticed the large increase in bumped topics?

Posted by: Corsair Feb 9 2007, 08:22 PM

I don't really mind it so much on a topic like this, it prevents all these awesome mechs from being buried smile.gif

But Tiberium Bum is the individual causing all the bumps

Posted by: Nods Viper Feb 9 2007, 08:24 PM

True, true...
I Personaly do not understand why this topic has not been spotlighted, i mean, those units are just awesome.
I can not think of any other word to say it, the smaller ones are the best though in my opinion, what d'you think Corsair?

Posted by: Corsair Feb 9 2007, 08:32 PM

LKO did seem to add more detail to the smaller mechs (but that may just be because of their small size)

So that's a big plus to me, I can't really say much about the larger mechs because I was never a fan of the larger mechs in Mechwarrior anyway - they are all really well done though (especially the vulture w00t.gif )

So yea, I'm a fan of the smaller to medium mechs (as well as the four legged artillery mech, that one's great!)

I would check in once a day to see what awesome mech LKO was going to add next during Christmas break, and I must say this was one heck of a present lol.gif

Posted by: Nods Viper Feb 9 2007, 08:37 PM

This is my favourite by far, i think it'd look awesome in my little mod project.

But thats all gonna be on hold so i can map for TS:EE.

Anyway, yeah your right, LKO sure knows how to please an SHP hungry crowd, i'd be happy to have LKO as a Tiberium Web secret santa anytime. wink1.gif

Door 21
the GDI Guerilla medium Mech
(the english name is Bushwacker
if you want you can rename the shp's and all corresponding names in art.ini and rules.ini to the english name)
stood already there wink.gif

@ Corsair, Nods Viper
thanks m8s
You're right, Corsair. All mechs nearly had the same amount of details (in the 3dmodel). So just due to the smaller size the small ones seem to have a higher detail level. While we are already talking about that, did you noticed the update on the first post? There are some of the small ones fixed. wink.gif
The colossus was really a problem for me, because i didn't knew if it would fit in the mechwarrior series and if it would be accepted. I already thought about making the Tarantula in the last second, just to have a full MW list.
But it's good to see that the Mechs are all liked.
Nods Viper, maybe this isn't spotlighted because it makes problems with the various Links to this thread. Also it could be that they simply aren't worth to be spotlighted. I tend to agree the one on PPM, who said that some units miss some kind of AntiAliasing to be really good. In my case it doesn't stands out that much, because i play on 800x600 and this way the units aren't that big, but for someone this could really be a con.

At least for me it's really a pleasure to see that this thread already has over 3600 views.
(even if i think that 500+ are from me rolleyes.gif )

btw Viper, the bump goes on icyson's cap and not tiberium bum(p). But i noticed him too. tongue.gif
Anyway new members always tend to bump, so i forgive them (if they stop after a while).

Posted by: Machine Feb 9 2007, 11:37 PM

@LKO:

I tried what Judeau said, I it does give a better result, but still I got a very little small black outline in some places, not a lot; but it might be the result of a mistake by my part; also I got a shadow error. But nothing that wasn't a small fix; I'll send you a PM latter with the results. tongue.gif

BTW, my favourite is the Daishi in GDI colors, but I also like a lot of the others.

Posted by: Lin Kuei Ominae Feb 9 2007, 11:53 PM

i'll try this tool too, next time i create a unit. btw i found out that you can turn off in customize/preferences/rendering the antialiasing with the background. But for that to work you have to delete the plane i used for the shadows.
The Daishi was rendered twice. I copied the cockpit from an antialiased version into the non-AA version. Maybe this is the reason this one became so good.

And you are only stating what everyone else has said, I would have thought you would have known that from all the bumps you have done on other topics

Posted by: Nods Viper Feb 11 2007, 06:50 PM

Yeah too damn right LKO has a life, he sure knows how to make some awesome peices of art.
Oh and Tiberium bum'p', stop bumping topics, please. dry.gif
Yeah the smaller one called the Jenner i beleive is different, but i didn't notice a massive change in it.

I get a weird bug, the colossus (the 6 leged Juggernaught replacement) seems to overlay 2 images at once when it turns certain ways (eg the down and SW direction images). I have copied ur art and rules.ini entries as you typed them and the bug is there. Any suggestions? huh.gif

Posted by: Lin Kuei Ominae Jul 4 2007, 05:02 PM

2 images at once? can you make a screenshot? I'm not sure what you mean and how this can happen.
The only thing i could guess, is that you made a mistake on the number of walkframes.
I don't have the problem and use the same art.ini entries as they are shown here on the christmas post.

Which version do you use? The GDI or Nod version? But this shouldn't play a role.

btw it has 4 legs wink1.gif

Posted by: Rico Jul 4 2007, 05:41 PM

lol, yes i meant 4 legs innocent.gif

Here's 2 screenies showing the 2 bugs.

And i used your ini codes directly, i copy pasted everything ninja.gif

Posted by: Lin Kuei Ominae Jul 4 2007, 07:05 PM

this happens when an shp file has an odd number of frames or wrong art.ini settings. But i don't know how it can happen that only some of the frames are missing.

Are you sure you don't have 2 entries in your art.ini. One overwriting the other and this way messes the frame-settings up.
Maybe you renamed the shp, but copied the whole art.ini entry from here. Because this includes both entries for the GDI and Nod Colossus. (COLOG=GDI COLON=Nod)

I downloaded the LKOcolossus.zip and checked the files. They are all ok.
If you still have problems you can upload here or send me per pm your art and rules and i'll have a look.

Posted by: Rico Jul 5 2007, 10:17 AM

I'll double check, chances are i made a silly mistake somewhere, ill PM you if I cant fix it innocent.gif
