i swear a while back i found a program that views them... they opened in black and white, erm... FntSmasher or something i realy dont know. but editing them is a no no i think, unless siberian gremlin gets hes editor done.

Edit** i googled FntSmasher, thats not the name... if i remember i will post here, but i think are best luck is getting in touch with SG at PPM.

Edit 2** http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q...earch&meta= this is where my search finished off, TS and RA2 uses some kind of resiable Font or something, where each pixel can be a differnt size and i think someone out there make Windows fonts like. dont shoot me if i am wrong tongue.gif

Are they in .Fnt format? I would download them myself, but the schools filter is stopping me for some reason.

I have tried to edit the .fnt's myself, but with no real results. I might give it another go.

Hmm, interesting. Im going to take a look at this now.

Also, the memu text seems to be connected to gldsysa.pcx and gldsysi.pcx in local.mix, but thats different from the .fnts, which are used for in-game objects and menus.

Edit: The program doesent seem to open the TS .fnt's. I havent tried making a new one yet though.

I have spoken to smiffgig and he told me that the TS fnt's are diffrent from the windows ones. So i guess that we'll have to sit tight untill a community made fnt editor is made :(

Ah, just to be conveinient I guess. angry.gif

The topic HERE at ppm has some form of .fnt editor in progress along with some source code. anyone know if (if it hasnt been continued/has been abandoned) they can do anything with it? (Banshee?)

How hard is it to just extract TS's font file and edit it? You can copy/paste the chars from any font you like.

Extracting: Easy, like extracting anything else.
Editing: Err, we cant even open the file, let alone edit it. I'm going to try and compile that source code (tomorrow, when I have more time) and see how far into development that program got.

Well, Ive just tried compiling the thing.. and it wont let me. The option in the menu is greyed out.

I'm using MS Visual C++ Express edition, anyone got any suggestions? I havent been doing C++ long, so I might be doing somthing wrong. It lets me compile simple stuff that I've made, but it is simple...

Alternativley: Anyone know a better program? I have tried a Borland compiler, but I cant work the damn thing out.

Edit: It just occured to me that the source code may not have been made with C++. If it hasnt,then that might explain why it wont compile it...

Edit#2: Okay, Im way out of my depth with just compiling this right now. Im going back to my C++ tutorials...

Well yes you can make C++ code with notepad, but theres no way of testing it.
I use Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Express Edition for editing and compiling, which is free. But I highly reccomend thinking about it, you cand just jump into C++. Its very hard. I can only make very simple text-based programs, and I've been trying to learn it for a long while now.

Anyway, banshee has informed me that this is likley to be in Delphi (another programming language) source code, so to compile it use a delphi compiler. Thats why I couldent compile it with a C++ compiler. I might try and learn Delphi once I'm better at C++ - no time soon sorry.

EDIT:
1st of December 2006 - A friend has just informed me of where I can get a free delphi compiler, and has given me some instructions... There may yet be hope for me compiling this. No promises though.

Yeah yeah I know, double post. Sorry.

Allright, so after following instructions on sorting out Delphi, I managed to compile the source code into somthing useful. The program, as says on the topic, cant open TS .fnt's, but can open RA1 .fnt's, which is an interesting experience. Its seem to work fine when I put those .fnt's into RA1. I have not yet tried putting the created .fnt's in TS yet, thats next on my to-do list. Although that may not seem helpful to anyone, it is significant for me as I had no previous knowlage of Delphi coding before. I have also noticed that Delphi code is a lot easier to figure out than than C++ smile.gif.

Does anyone know if any more source code for this is available, or is the stuff on that topic the only public stuff available?

You may have just hit the nail on the head there Creagor

If you can edit RA1 fonts then they should work fine in TS
The fonts used in my example screenie where from TD (or RA1 cant remember)
(strange how that editor cant open TS .fnt files though)

The RA1 fonts work in TS?
This requires immediate testing!. Ill try and test it ASAP, but no garuntees as to when sorry. I didnt try opening any TD fonts with the editor, as I dont have TD any more. Can somone post the TD .fnt's up please?

There is one problem though - I cant get the .fnts from TD or RA1 to work in TS, edited or unedited. When I just put them in my TS directory, the game ignores them.When I put them in an ecache or expand.mix, the game comes up with an error - Failed to initialize, please reinstall. I havent yet tried using just cache.mix yet though.

Anyone know how smiff did it? I'm probably missing somthing obvious here, I just cant see it yet...

just extract cache.mix and replace this files in there, 12met i think the the ingame "options" and "credits roll" (cant remember the rest), but RA1 fnts do work with TS, i think the only update to the TS FNT version is the ablity to resize smoother.
