well im keepin my promise to ya guys this time. i said this map would be released by tuesday and im releasing it. though im not completely happy with it yet so i may in the near or far future update it. so this is only Version 1. anyways heres the good stuff Map: Name: Frozen Nightfall (credit for map name goes to Chielscape even if it was forever ago that he suggested it for another map) Map Maker: Ixith Map Size: 68X68 (this will be the last small 2 player map for awhile all other maps from now) Players: 2 Theatre: Tundra (snow) Info: This map is a snow map. (my 3rd snow map) It is a small map for quick battles and fast past action. (usually) The map features an evacuated city slowly being ruined by the effects of tiberium. It also has 3 small villages. 2 of these have survived however the other one was not so fortunate and was ravaged by the tiberium near the old GDI base left from the 1st tiberian war. There is plenty of tiberium for players and there should be plenty of buildspace. This is my 20th map now (I think) so enjoy it! Story: The city of Vanictia was a thriving resort town in these snowy cliffs. The city flourished with activity. However, after many years a heat wave came into this normaly cold climated area and much of the snow started to melt and due to this unnatural heat in the area tiberium was able to survive in the area. Soon the tiberium gained a choke hold on the area and the city and its citizens were being destroyed. GDI sent in help to the city but left the people of the smaller towns outside the city to die. Luckily for 2 of the small villages, another city nearby was able to supply them with the things they needed to try to survive in their desolated towns. But there was a 3rd town which did not recieve this help due to it being in the center of the wasteland. Eventually the other towns lost all contact with this one and no one knows of what happened to the citizens inside... sheesh long story i just kept typing man....i have a problem with that it seems when i get going on a story. **Note im adding this in as through out my tests i have seen the AI pwn me, be a fair challenge, do ok, and hardly do anything. so its best if you want them to fight back to attack them preferably somewhat early on** time for the pics: (which are cropped as to reduce size ahead of time )

QUOTE (The DvD @ Apr 9 2007, 03:55 PM) Don't you just love alpha light posts on snow maps yes i must say i do  although i love them all the time though really. thanks for the comments guys. i honestly love the lighting of this map but hate other things....like the fact the AI is unpredictable if its going to be fun or just be crappy. which is what i hope on making better if i do a version 2. if there is a version 2 then you can expect me to fix any errors/things you guys want changed, maybe some added triggers, better AI of course since thats my main thing against this map, and possibly just possibly i might expand the size of the map some on version 2 if and when it comes. anyways thanks guys. i would like a lot more comments though. so if anyone has something to say then please say it. especially if its a review of the map from finalsun and ingame!

I personally think you should add more lighting to the other fields and dim the other lighting, it's too bright. Do this in version two and I say... spotlight.

QUOTE Do this in version two and I say... spotlight. Trying to sound proffesional, now are, we? Very good job once again, Ixith... Only, the things i dislike about this one, is that the paved roads do no blend with the pavement... Though i guess this can't be helped as it's just simply, the way, Westwood made it... Meh... Spotlight it... I don't see why not...

Do this in version two and I say... spotlight. IMHO i dont think that every tiberium field that has a tib tree in it needs lighting. and i think you mean the green is too intense as its more dark than it is bright but i wont change it unless i see more people with the same opinion as you. also personally i think that the dark intense green lighting adds to a more dark and sinister feel and adds to the "nightfall" feel. but we will see what others think. and about the paved roads blending thing. yes that is a problem that really cant be helped since its WW made terrain (well if someone wanted to make a Terrain expansion to make it not looks as bad i guess it could be helped) but to kinda answer and find a reason for the mishap blend is that the snow on the edge of the road is simply the large snow drifts formed from when the snow plows push the snow off to the side of the road. so if anyone buys into that then its good (i actually do see snow drifts like this a lot but then there is also a lot of snow on the pavement beside the road. ) anyways i would love to have more comments especially if they are reviews.

If one tiberium field has lighting, it looks unatural that another one doesn't have lighting, doesn't it ? I mean.. if you see a tiberium field be like that in the first picture, and one all dead for lighting, I don't like that... Sorry dude, no spotlight from me if you don't fix that. Nothing much is needed, add a small lighting to the ones not lighted up, and I will say spotlight. All the other things... I love them. The detail, layout, main lighting.

But you can't help that, being as Westwood made the terrain (Bastards ) I Had time to play it! Amazing... Game-play was fun... Definatly a keeper on my list... Now i've got to rearrange my directory again... Gah... Congratulations... Your 20th map making aniversary... And it was not a disapointment... Spotlight.

why would a new field have no lighting ? Also, I am not saying that it shouldn't have variety, tiberium fields should imo, gain variety trough size, number of blossom trees, and shape. Lighting would be the same for a new and an old wouldn't it ? It reflectes just as much as new.

Ok this is the accepted logic on how tib field lighting is assigned: If the field has a reiperius or a vinifera it gets a corresponding lightpost to the tibs color.

Lighting would be the same for a new and an old wouldn't it ? 1)that depends. but IMO a new developing area of tib may not have lighting due to it not being as poisonous yet and things of that nature. while the older fields are and have ruined the land in their area thus the appears around them. 2)and the lighting doesnt have to be the same. yes it could be. but it doesnt have to be and thats the beauty behind it. if you honestly think that all the tib fields should have lighting in them then you can add it in yourself OR wait to see if at least 2 more people agree with you. (provided there arent any people how disagree with you) more comments anyone? id really love to see some ingame reviews.

(oh and can you post it at PPM as iv hardly gotten any comments out of the people there and i would really like to see what they have to say about it.) and thanks for the vote for a spotlight although i dont think this one will get it which is ok. cause in all truth i dont think it deserves it especially when compared to my maps that are going to be coming up soon anymore comments?

QUOTE (The Raven @ Apr 14 2007, 07:07 PM) Well i havn't had time for a full evaluation of it yet, since i just got back, but it is a nice little map indeed. ahh thanks raven. you should play it and give a detailed ingame review. (and post it at PPM so they see it and then maybe they will post comments to help me) are there any more comments?

Forget what I said about the lighting, it's not that a big deal, even though, I hate how you didn't add lighting to all fields, Now when I look at this map, I see a very nicely detailed snow map.
Detail: 10\10 - Because snow maps are hard to do and you did this very well, I can't say why not 10\10 Layout: 9\10 - Layout is awesome, I like it. Lighting: 9\10 - Nice atmosphere, a shame the things that I mentioned, I didn't put attention to it right now. Overall: 9.25\10 - My final comments are that this map is an awesome little two player map touched up with villages, towns etc. a few cool triggers. Map is definitely worth a spotlight. Edit: Gameplay: 9\10 - interesting gameplay, much tiberium, triggers. When I played I liked the map very much. I don't really know, to get full score in layout from me, it requires that I like the layout, so it's hard to say really.
