I am a bit puzzled at the minute with the crashes I'm currently having in C&C95 (TFD version).

The most common crash I'm having brings up a windows popup box saying: -
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The intruction at 004ce0cb referenced memory at 00000000
The memory could not be read from

Click on OK to terminate the application
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This one normally comes up as you just select a mission.

Another crash I'm having is a less common one, which brings up a windows popup box saying : -
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The intruction at 004ad351 referenced memory at 00000005
The memory could not be read from

Click on OK to terminate the application
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Other crashes simply freezes the game for no apparent reason.

Here is what I have done to try to rectify these crashes: -

1) Patched up the game to the latest official update
2) Patched up the game to the latest unofficial update (1.05 I believe, available from the forums)
3) Patched up the game to the latest unofficial update (1.06b I believe, available from Nyerguds)
4) Set compatibility mode to 'Windows 95', run in 256 colours, disable visual themes and disable advanced text services for this program

Has anyone else had these problems and can anyone offer other suggestions to get rid of these crashes?

Cheers smile.gif

1.06b

Thats impossible because 1.06b has not been released yet. tongue.gif

TFD already has the only version of C&C95 1.04a

The latest unofficial update is 1.06a rev2. And you don't have to install the 1.05 update because 1.06a already has it.

What Operating System are you using?

I have those problems, and for as far as I know, they're compatibility issues. Nyerguds might have a solution to the problem. I assume you have windows XP or vista.

The instruction at 004ce0cb referenced memory at 00000000

An error in the "Ascii to Integer" function doesn't have anything to do with compatibility. It probably means you screwed up somewhere when making a mission or editing conquer.ini.

I ment to say 1.06a, not 1.06b, sorry about that tongue.gif .

Anyway, the error "The instruction at 004ce0cb referenced memory at 00000000" does not seem to appear in C&C DOS on my Windows 98 computer though. However, the errors came from one or two mission packs that I have downloaded a while back but I can't remember where they came from though.

While I was playing other missions that I downloaded, I came across 2 more 'crashes' : -

The instruction at 004cdff4 referenced memory at 00000018
The instruction at 004af358 referenced memory at 00000022

And yes, I am using XP

(again, cheers smile.gif )

004CDFF4 is in strncpy_
004AF358 is in a HouseClass function.

So pretty much, them missions must be nerfed.

The missions in question are a part of 3 C&C1 Covert Ops mission compliations that I downloaded a while back but I can't remember where I got them from at the moment.

Inside this zip file is those 3 mission compliations that I have used.

Attached File  C_C1_compliations.zip ( 599.8K ) Number of downloads: 252

PS: Please remember that the original creators's disclamers and copyrights of the missions still apply.

Unless you can tell me the name codes of the missions which had these problems, I really can't help you. I'm not going to plough through hundreds of missions looking for ini problems -_-

When playing a mission, you see the mission's name code in the lower right corner of the options menu.
