So yea....my dad and his best friend almost every weekend have a cookout....yes even in the winter. These cookouts consist of completely over the fire cookouts, so no propane grills for this type of cookout. We have a nice fire set up over our fire pit that allows us to cook stuff on a grill surface or allows for cast iron skillets and pots to be put over to cook their contents. Now the usual things they cook are of course stir fries or chili. Plus some basic cookout stuff like hamburgers and hot dogs. tongue.gif

Now....during the spring, summer, and early fall its nice and warm...then into the late fall it starts getting cold....but tonight topped them all in cold cookout nights. Let's just put it this way...tonight is suppose to be the coldest night of the season over here. lol.gif 8°F Feels Like -5°F is the temperature and the wind chill factor for tonight. So yes....we were indeed cooking out in freezing weather. Our drinks were turning to slushies and we occasionally had to put them close to the fire so they would be less slushy. The hot sauce for the chili....FROZE in the bottle. A little bit of some Monster Energy drink that was spilled, froze within a minute on the table.

Fun story though...one winter they had a cookout and it started to drop down sleet on them....yet they continued their cookout. So there ended up being this circular area of dry spots with no ice while all around that there was like an inch of ice. XD yea extreme cookouts FTW!

But I have decided that the most fun cookouts are like this...in the freezing cold weather. It just makes the fire so much more fun and worth it. BTW the chili was amazing. biggrin.gif

So yea....how about your guys' cookouts? have any good ones lately?
(BTW I shall get a picture of the cookout at the next one...hopefully)

I Take it your the Homer Simpson of your family? tongue.gif We used to have good ol' cookouts a few years ago, back when the weather was actually nice in the summer time. We stopped doing them after me and my brothers grew up (This was about five years ago). I remember seeing Steve (Disturbed) walking around with my Dad setting up the BBQ's while I was talking to other family members that I rarely saw. We've not had a family renuinion or family get-together in over five years now.

We don't have cook-offs here, but my dad did use some leftover firewood (there's a wood stove in the garage for when he works in there) to cook 2 full bags' worth of ground sirloin patties (which comes to about 3 dozen, I didn't actually count but it seems right from what I remember). tongue.gif

We occasionally have cookouts. The weather seldom gets below freezing here though... We've had it in a lighting storm though. THAT was interesting. No rain, but great lightshow.

WTF lave in Ohio?! lol.gif

well about 2 weeks ago I mentioned cooking out. Well again it was saturday and we cooked out! Though the weather was more promising this time. LOL

So anyways heres some pics after we finished cooking and were just burning stuff.

Attached Image
This is our cooking apparatus. It is a simple structure made up of an old piano frame bolted onto stakes a little bit above the actual fire pit. To cook certain things we just put some grills like you would find on any oven/propane grill. (though we have this nice heavy duty set) We usually use Cast Iron pans and pots for cooking stuff.

OH SHI- A ZTYPING FLAMETHROWER!!!

Nah its just some scrap wood stuff that my dad had in the garage for awhile that we decided to burn.
Attached Image

Now it had some cool inside burning...would almost make a neat texture.

Now all of these last pictures and the very first picture are all of that giant burning wood thing with the flames flying out of it. lol It had laminated wood sides which was what the first pic was. The other crackly like picture was the inside as it burned.

So thats a good run down...Maybe next time I will get a pic of the actual food and what not.
BTW...Java Monster Energy Drinks FTW! (5 new flavors!!!!)

Well.
We're having a super-bowl cookout. There are like 30 ppl over here right now. Two of which are on my bed locked in what i believe is a makeout session.. It's kinda weird hearing those noises. *turns on music*

okay we're cool now.
