A map a made while mucking around, basicaly trying to run through the things Ixith sujested:

QUOTE (Ixith @ Aug 28 2007, 03:08 AM) *
I have some tips for you to follow:
- Make asymmetrical maps.
- Make your maps seem realistic. Thus no really straight rivers, cliffs, and hills.
- Make sure you have correctly used cliffs and shore pieces. Marble Madness helps wonders with this. I mention this as I see that on the area near where the tiberium is on that river island there are 2 shore error ish spots and no shore at all on that area of pavement down below the tiberium area.
- Make sure you fully complete the trigger(s). I looked at your trigger and i must admit im surprised as it was all correct except you just forgot to follow through with attaching the trigger to the train, making the team-type selected in your action, and making sure the trigger was set as the tag on the team-type.
- Do not use repeated cliffs. It looks kinda ugly.
- If you have bridges it might be wise to add the bridge repair huts wink1.gif (noticed you didnt have any)
- Make sure there are at least a few tib trees on the map.
- Make sure to add lighting. The normal lighting isn't bad but on a snow map like this it could be a little bright plus dynamic lighting on a map does great justice to making a very nice feel to the game.

Its best to keep those things in mind as it makes your maps more fun and gives them a good feel when playing rather than a bland feel.

Overall:
- Pretty decent for a beginner. You made use of cliffs, water, train trigger, C&P roads (which i kinda like the style of that for a snow map although it kinda looks ugly when going from bridges to that or to paved road slopes to that.)

Keep working. Remember to keep those tips in mind to make your next few maps get better and better. Always look to improve and remember that a good map takes time and patience. I think you have good potential to becoming a good mapper. biggrin.gif

- Ive taken away striagh rivers, hills, and cliffs...only thing that is straight are the train tracks, but thats how they should be:D.
- I didnt use Marble Madness like you sujested but i took extra care this time drawing the cliffs peice by peice instead of using the auto-cliff tool.
- Im still not too good with triggers, i seem to always miss one part out...and as we all kow even missing one part out makes it not work...
- I drew ALL cliffs in by hand.
- I added some tib trees and upped the money on the map ( still might add more ).
- I added bridge repair huts on the bridges that "would" be destroyed...I didnt see the need to put bridge repair huts on the bridges that went no where.
- Lighting is not completed yet, i think im going to investigate on lighting and try my best to add some good ones in.

I hope you like it, its still not completely finished and also sorry to all those map makers who look at this and think "Oh dear God! Hes a comeplete idiot!" and shoot themselves!

Im not sure why but train is working, can someone take a look for me please innocent.gif

Thanks, Biohazard

P.S No idea why its called City of Mutants...I might add some a mutant army into it with a few other extras ( Mutant VS Civillian battle planned )

P.P.S Its reccomended that you make the locomotive/train car/cargo car non crushable as alot of tracks run thorugh tiberian...Harvesters go boom!

Interesting, its a good start, but really... i think you need to be less... common, thats the only word i can think of at this moment. When i map (yes i do biggrin.gif) i tend to look at aerial shots of places like city's if i want to recreate a city... etc, try something like that.

Dude, the Tiberium is too unevenly placed. Some players will get a perfect economy, while others will suffer.

Ballance that out and add some more detail here and there. And the map will get really good. smile.gif

This must have been a random map, with a few things added.. a good quick way to put down the layout on a large map like this

I never figured out how to edit random maps with Final sun hmm.gif

Actualy it isnt. I made it as like...a part after my frav map called "Tunnel Trainin".

The tiberian is bunched to allow you to set up artillery to protect your harvesters without having to move them every 5 mins, often when i play online i destroy thier harvesters as quick as i can...remember...No money = No Attack, No Attack = You Win!

So its pretty much stopping people like me having too much fun, but i will take a look and add some more tib and take some away. Like i said this is only half finished. TSHyper i might do what you said, or i'll look at other peoples maps at any rate, im not to good with cities as the limit of buildings on a snow map really sucks.

Hopefully it will be done soon, but havent got much time on my hands at the moment, so maybe by end of the week.

Thanks, Biohazard

P.S Any luck with the train script anyone? I still cant get it to work =[

The overall map doesn't look too bad, it just needs some ballancing and it could be quite a nice map. :3

There are, however, a few cliffies which I noticed. (this is, indeed, where Marble Madness comes in)
I'll point out some of the more eye-catching ones, and I'll leave you to the rest.

If you need help fixing them, check out my tut here about cliff errors:

Wiziwig with his cliffies and his funnyness smile.gif

Anyway.. time to judge the map.. The detail level was a bit too low, not much more to say.. add a lot more. The layout is ok, rivers are ok, but could use work. You did repeat cliffs which you should NEVER do.

The small villages could be better.. and the tiberium is.. umm too MUCH. I recommend not using that much tiberium. I also think the map seems a bit of an empty place.. You should add more trees aswell. And don't worry.. I was worse than that tongue.gif
