I based this story on facts I already knew and clues Adam Isgreen gave away at the Petroglyph forums.
- - - - - -
There was a time when Mars was just like we know Earth today and was populated by a peaceful race, the Martians. After millennia’s the Martians had evolved to a point where to a point where they aged very slowly and in order to prevent themselves from overpopulating their planet and exhausting their planet’s resources, they stopped reproducing.
The Martians considered populating the nearby planet Earth, but the species living there at the time would make that nearly impossible.
The situation was the same for an alien race that lived on a planet in a nearby solar system, only they didn’t stop themselves from reproducing.
The long existence of both the Martian and Scrin race meant for their planets that the resources were severely depleting. Unlike the Martians who moderated the population of their own race in order to live with the resources they had for as long as possible, the Scrin race had a behavior similar to that we know of the grasshopper. The Scrin populated multiple planets and went from planet to planet to harvest the resources.
When the resources of all planets in the Scrin’s solar system were nearly depleted, the Scrin started looking for resources outside of their solar system and it didn’t bother them whether and by who or what a planet was populated. This resulted in a war between the Scrin and the Martians.
The Martians learned about the intentions of the Scrin and knew that aside from Mars, Earth would also be a potential target for the Scrin to harvest resources from. The Martians knew the Scrin hadn’t noticed Earth yet and in order to hide the fact Earth was inhabitable and had resources for the Scrin to harvest, the Martians sent a meteor to earth. The impact killed many animals and when dust got into the atmosphere and blocked the sun out, it caused an ice age which killed many more animals. Since the Martians were a peaceful race, they never wanted to harm the creatures inhabiting earth (or they would have just wiped out the dinosaurs so they could live there), but the dust in the atmosphere hid what was underneath and because of the ice age the Scrin could only get glimpses of an uninhabitable tundra when attempting to see through the dust. Because of this more species on Earth were saved than killed.
The war went on for a long time and even though the Martians had superior technology, they were severely outnumbered. The Martian leader realized this and saw they no way to defeat the Scrin. In order to preserve his race, the Martian leader told the Martians to start reproducing again. The children of the Martians were genetically engineered before birth so that they’d age a lot quicker and they were sent to earth on a young age. The Martian leader already had a son named Adam and he was also sent to earth along with the young children so he could rule over the humans for the generations to come.
It was kept a secret to the people on earth (the offspring of the Martians) where they were from and none of them (aside from Adam) ever got to see the Martian leader.
Adam found a wife and had 2 Children with her: Abel and Caïn. Like their father, Abel and Caïn also aged very slowly. Eve aged as quickly as the other humans however and to Adam’s sorrow she eventually died. Adam was heartbroken and wanted to return to Mars, even known that would mean he would have to participate in the losing war against the Scrin.
Adam returning to Mars would mean Abel would take Adam’s place to rule over the humans. Caïn’s mixed emotions became too much for him (grief, anger and jealousy) and in an outburst he killed his brother Abel. As a punishment Caïn would never take Adam’s place as ruler (even though this meant there would be no ruler at all) and Adam returned to Mars, leaving Caïn behind on earth.
The war against the Scrin went on for a long time until only a few Martians were left. Just when all hope seemed to be lost, the Martian leader figured out a way to defeat the Scrin. The other Martians were notified, but it became obvious that they were way to low in numbers to execute the plan. Out of despair they made a brave attempt anyway. All Martians gathered in a fleet and went to the Scrin’s solar system. The Martians came very close to their goal, but unfortunately not close enough… Every single Martian was killed and the Martian leader was imprisoned in a sole prison, the Tacitus. The Martian leader was known as God.
The Scrin harvested the resources from Mars until there was nothing left. Even though the dust in Earth’s atmosphere was long gone, just like the ice age, the Scrin went back to their solar system without bothering Earth because the last recon only showed them a cold, uninhabitable planet with an atmosphere that let blocked out all the sun.
Because everyone knew about Caïn’s sin, he wasn’t accepted anywhere. Caïn lived as an outcast for generations until eventually the people forgot who he was. Caïn (who became known as Kane) still wanted to rule over the humans. He believed he deserved it. In search for power, Kane started his own cult and gained many followers (1800 BC). The Brotherhood of Nod remained hidden in the shadows for many centuries and unbeknownst to anyone but members from the brotherhood they had a hand in many wars and conflicts.

QUOTE (jadems @ Aug 7 2007, 09:08 AM) That kinda makes sense, but wouldn't the Scrin invade EArth as soon as the dust went away? I doubt they would wait 2+ centuries And where does God's son fit in? The Scrin didn't invade earth because at the time they send a recon ship to explore, Earth seemed to be uninhabitable and the Scrin never bothered to send another recon (they didn't expect the dust in the atmosphere and the ice age to be temporal). The only "God's son" in this story is Adam; he was supposed to rule over the humans on earth, but he went back to mars to join the fight against the Scrin after his wife (Eve) died. QUOTE (CommanderSpartan @ Aug 7 2007, 10:04 AM) It makes sense now, so thats why that guy that killed himself with eye drugs *forgot the name*, and had a pyramid, said Kane made the Scirn ship, I think. *note this is all in TS* Vega killed himself because he realized his mistake and knew Kane would most likely kill him for that (he took Kane's Scrinship and crashed it) and aside from that GDI took out his forces and was about to storm in.

so kane is a.. Martian?!? But it does make a lot of sense though, especially the fact that the scrin move from planet to planet to take their resources and leave.

Actually, he'd be 100% Martian. Eve is Martian too. But dude, way too much crack. So, the Bible is true, and all the other religions are wrong? Their story of the world is wrong? Also, Martians why wouldn't the martians simply, erm, I dunno, make those children on Mars and win the war? The story is far too simple and if you dig in, you'll find a whole lot of stuff, that simply doesn't fit. Sorry mate. Though, you do have a tallent to write

QUOTE (z @ Aug 8 2007, 11:10 PM) Actually, he'd be 100% Martian. Eve is Martian too. Even though Eve was offspring from the Martians, she's defined as a human (just like we are). Even though I didn't write it down (I didn't write the opposite either however) I had in my mind that Eve came several generations after the children were sent to Earth, though that doesn't make a difference; also first generation of children that were sent to Earth are defined as humans (yes, they were born on Mars which indeed sort of makes them Martians, but their biology is the same as ours and that is why I define them as humans). QUOTE (z @ Aug 8 2007, 11:10 PM) But dude, way too much crack. So, the Bible is true, and all the other religions are wrong? Their story of the world is wrong? I'm not confirming or arguing against any religions at all. Adam Isgreen confirmed that Kane was really Caïn, son of Adam who killed his brother Abel, so I did something with that. In my story God is basically just a name, just like Adam, Eve, Caïn and Abel. QUOTE (z @ Aug 8 2007, 11:10 PM) Also, Martians why wouldn't the martians simply, erm, I dunno, make those children on Mars and win the war? Because the Martians were already losing the war... How can you "simply" win the war when you're severely outnumbered and playing defense already? QUOTE (z @ Aug 8 2007, 11:10 PM) The story is far too simple and if you dig in, you'll find a whole lot of stuff, that simply doesn't fit. Sorry mate. Though, you do have a tallent to write Well, please tell me what doesn't fit and I might try to fix it... The way I see it you haven't mentioned anything that doesn't fit so far however.

QUOTE it doesn't take any more faith to believe this than is does to believe in the Bible. you would know, I'm sure.. because you've read it yourself and know its message Loving your neighbor as yourself is a pretty hard thing to believe, isn't it

That still makes us Martians QUOTE I'm not confirming or arguing against any religions at all. Meh, you probably know I hate religion, so I don't care. The fact is, most, if not all religions use some facts and twist them, making them into a fairy tale. Point is, taking the religion as a basis for fantasy sucks in my book. QUOTE Because the Martians were already losing the war... How can you "simply" win the war when you're severely outnumbered and playing defense already? Well, for instance, make the children age very quicly, be very strong, agile etc. - perfect warriors with advanced technology and rapidly growing in numbers. That would win them the war with ease. Instead, the Martians send them to Earth and make their bodies weak and even delete their memories because? How would it help the people not knowing that the Scrin are attacking? It would hurt them a lot more...

QUOTE (z @ Aug 9 2007, 01:39 PM) That still makes us Martians True. However, we call ourselves humans and since Eve was as much a human as we are, I think we can also call her a human. QUOTE (z @ Aug 9 2007, 01:39 PM) Well, for instance, make the children age very quicly, be very strong, agile etc. - perfect warriors with advanced technology and rapidly growing in numbers. That would win them the war with ease. Instead, the Martians send them to Earth and make their bodies weak and even delete their memories because? How would it help the people not knowing that the Scrin are attacking? It would hurt them a lot more... That certainly wouldn't win them the war with ease. Like I said, the Scrin greatly outnumbered them (they populated multiple planets in their solar system) and it doesn't matter how much the Martians would throw against the Scrin because the Scrin would send twice the forces that were defeated. The Martians saw no way they could defeat the Scrin, so in order to prevent their race from being exterminated, they sent their offspring to another planet and made sure they didn't know about what was going on so they wouldn't have to live in fear. Only after the Martians sent the "humans" to earth, the Martian leader thought of a plan to defeat the Scrin (which eventually failed because they were too late).

Massive numbers and horribly advanced technology won't win them the war? And some tactics, devised by a most genious Martian commander would surelly be able to at least halt the Scrin, untill the new Martians are actually strong enough and many enough to overwhelm the Scrin. Also: QUOTE ('I') Instead, the Martians send them to Earth and make their bodies weak and even delete their memories because? How would it help the people not knowing that the Scrin are attacking? It would hurt them a lot more... Still, this doesn't make sence. Surelly, the advanced martian society uses logic. Yes, the humans can be a plan B. But plan be must be well prepared, eg know the situation, not keep it a secret, as that would lower it chances of success.

The "humans" were sent to earth for the preservation of their race and they their lifespan was shortened to Earth wouldn't be overpopulated within just a few generations. Also, the memories of the humans weren't erased; they were sent to earth on an age too young to remember the scrinvasion on Mars. Their vague memory of Mars is probably where the later generations of the humans got the idea of a paradise from.
I did say the Martians had superior technology to the Scrin, but that doesn't mean they're automatically able to halt the Scrin. How are you going to halt an continuous ever lasting wave when you're cornered? It's possible they could have halted the Scrin for a short while, but sooner or later the Scrin will break through whatever is halting them.
Anyway, I wanted to leave some room for speculation, which is why I didn't always give as many details. I gave basics; the children were moved to Earth during the war with the Scrin and exactly how they survived and developed is for you to make up. I said the Scrin invaded; exactly what their tactics were is for you to make up. So... If you think something is inconsistent because of missing details, make up that information yourself to make it consistent. If you think something is inconsistent because of wrong details, tell me and I'll see if it's really wrong and if it is, I'll try to fix it.
