I've gotten a few of these, saying that msn is going to close down.
Between the reason they give, and the method in which they use to spread the message, it reeks all over of HOAX dry.gif

QUOTE
Hey it is Andy and john the directors of MSN, sorry for the interruption but
msn is closing down. this is because too many inconsiderate people are
taking up all the name (eg making up lots of different accounts for just one
person), we only have 578 names left. If you would like to close your
account, DO NOT SEND THIS MESSAGE ON. If you would like to keep your
account, then SEND THIS MESSAGE TO EVERYONE ON YOUR CONTACT LIST. This is
no
joke, we will be shutting down the servers. Send it on, thanks. WHO EVER
DOES NOT SEND THIS MESSEAGE, YOUR ACCOUNT WILL BE CLOSED AND YOU WILL
COST
10.00 A MONTH TO USE. SEND THIS TO EVERYONE ON YOUR CONTACT LIST. NOW YOU
KNOW WHAT TO DO. PLEASE DO NOT FORWARD THIS or REPLAY. COPY THE WHOLE
EMAIL.
GO BACK TO YOUR INBOX AND CLICK ON NEW. AND PASTE THANK YOU FOR YOUR
ATTENTION.

Now i know what you're thinking, and i thought the same.
But this is actualy true, i looked on the internet and apparrently its really gonna happen...
So send it on. Thanks.
Don't beleive me? Then google it...

So I Googled It and surprise, surpise it was a hoax. If you get this message, disregard it and kill the dumb chain.

Yea if you think this should be in crap, by all means

I don't get any hoax e-mails (except for those bogus ones that ask you to help retrieve someone's fortune in exchange for some up-front fee, although I haven't even gotten one of THOSE in a while...), though I've seen my share of believable mail (I don't believe it anyway and trash it). That message is full of grammatical errors, and that alone should be enough to give it away. Also the fact that they claim they'll start charging you, that's simply a huge load of crap.

yeah if msn really WAS closing down, it
1. wouldn't be for the reason they mentioned. even IF peoople had multiple accounts, they would have to have a catastrpohically large number of them for the message to hold any truth. When you think about it, there are 36 possibilities for each character in the screen name; A-Z and 0-9.
For an 8 letter screen name:
36 x 36 x 36 x 36 x 36 x 36 x 36 x 36 = 2821109907456 possibilities, just by using 8 letters!
Assume there are 6.5 billion people in the planet, and if every single one of them uses multiple screen names. . .

2821109907456
------------------ = 434 screen names EACH
6,500,000,000

Obviously not every human being on te planet uses msn, and for those who use msn, if they were to use multiple screen names, I would seriously doubt they'd have more than ten. twenty as absolute max.

2. msn is gigantic. If they were to inform of its close, it wouldn't be in the form of a chain-email. Especially one that supposedly deletes your msn account if you don't pass it on dry.gif

3. the grammar and spelling SUCKS. It also contains use of words you would NEVER find in a professional email.
-john roll.gif
-This is no joke dry.gif
-AND YOU WILL COST 10.00 A MONTH TO USE pinch.gif horrable!
-REPLAY -NEW. AND PASTE THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION. puke.gif

I give you F- for miserable grammar, spelling, and punctuation. OW! OW! such abuse to the engish language!

I get stuff like this a lot, basically all mail that comes to me from anyone who isnt on the contacts list gets "filtered" into a sepearte folder, so I can just scan over it for non-rubbish, then delete the whole folder contents. The wholeconcept behing theese messages is flawed, im sure the leaders of MSM could send a message to everyone registered very easily - rather than relying on untrustworthy users. Im amazed people (including some of my not-so-bright friends) fall for theese.

i agree if MSN was going to shut down and what not then they would send an official message from the MSN Staff/Leaders to every user all at once.

oh and they probably wouldnt try sending it around twice dry.gif stupid crap i got it 2 times in the last 2 weeks probably. i seriously cant see how people would fall for this type of crap. its so obvious its junk.

I agree, I got one of these emails, which ARO claimed to be true ^_^
Kill all those stupid chains, example: If you send this mail to everyone in less than 5 minutes, the person you're in love with will get together with you.... blabla! CRAP!!!!!

I agree; I got one from Black Hawk, which I deleted right away... Then very shortly after that I got another from Roani.
Just to be honest I think you indeed aren't very bright if you fall for mails like this... First of all MSN indeed wouldn't send a message like this around in a chain mail, but instead you'd get a very nice news message from MSN in your mail or possibly in MSN Messenger itself.
Second, the message didn't even look close to formal (which it would have if it was formal) and sending around chain letters via hotmail would in no way be able to notify the MSN Messenger folks who'd supposingly shut it down seeming they aren't able to read mails you don't send to them; they aren't even allowed to (not even the title), or they'd be harming your privacy. Aside from that MSN Messenger also has nothing to do with Hotmail, so there's no way the people behind MSN could read mails send by or to hotmail users in the first place (unless they have some 1337 hacker over there).

Well, hotmail and MSN are both owned by MS, and are actually closely linked. wink1.gif

Anyways, we all know its a hoax, all chain mails are.

I didn't get this yet, but I know my sister did. Twice. Chain mails suck. Damn the over-indulging internet community addicts.
