Because the Bell Helicopter company took the Huey, slimmed it down, added high-tech weapons systems, closed off the back, and added some new avionics. That new version got the name AH-1 Cobra, and was put in use for the attack helicopter role.
I know that there was an armed version of the Huey already in existence, there is a few I think, but I picked the coolest one.
