Maybe the campaign in the game has lots of ingenious plots which lead to the halting on mech production and going back to tanks for GDI?
Terrorists attacks on mech plants and then you ship out in a mech and then there are mech traps and the continuous plan of attaching bombs to the mech's legs and so on...
