The Brotherhood of Nod, an ancient and secret society claims they have been there since 1800 BC

I believe it's as true as Kane naming Tiberium not after the river, but after Tiberius Drusus Cesar. So it's up to you if you believe the Brotherhood or not.

I always thought that the majority of Nod's early power base came out of the middle east.

No. The Brotherhood offers Peace, Unity, and Brotherhood for poor, divided, or fractured nations (African nations, for example).

Indeed; they claim to have been there since 1800 BC. I wouldn't have believed it at all if Ishmael (from Petroglyph) wouldn't have confirmed that in their story (probably not EA's) Kane really is Caïn (Adam's son) and really did kill his brother. But if it's true the Brotherhood of Nod were there since 1800 BC, why would they wait until the 20th century to attempt to take over? It's true the soviets gave them the means to do so (the chaos created by the Great World War II -Red Alert- gave Nod the opportunity to emerge, weather the soviets would win or lose), but they should have had many other opportunities throughout history.

Like Orca Commander said, that's just propaganda. Maybe a part of Nod has those intentions, thinking that's what they're fighting for, but the majority and Kane's intentions are certainly different.
If you need proof, just look at some of the FMV's from Red Alert and Tiberian Dawn...
In Red Alert Kane was Stallin's right hand, meaning a lot of Stallin's actions were actually Kane's idea's. Stallin also whiped out villages just to test weapons and had no mercy for women or children and obviously Kane couldn't care less about them either. Also, in the final Soviet FMV Kane takes control of the soviets by shooting Nadia after she poisoned Stallin (with his knowlage). It's never actually said or confirmed that that's what Kane is doing, but to me it seems obvious; with Stallin dead, Kane as Stallin's right hand would take his place and would have the entire Soviet army at his disposal (if this would have happened, they would have became part of Nod and Nod would have been unstoppable in Tiberian Dawn). Kane also had a perfect alibi: He shot Nadia when he found out she killed Stallin.
If this isn't enough, in TD Kane lets Nod wipe out a village and then gets the news guy to blame GDI on the news (after which he shoots the camera when it appears still to be rolling when he's talking to the news guy).
