Ah, new to modding, eh? I know the feeling. But the answer really is lurking. I lurked here and at PPM for months and months (Joined here deceptively late). I read tutorials, I SHPed, voxelled and coded - basically, I tried to find what I was really good at in modding. If you can find something that you are good at and enjoy, then you'll be able to strive on this and other forums, and maybe you'll be a Core Defender one day Oh, the worst that can happen - Well other than the crashes that you'd expect, I'd say that getting really angry at your computer is the worst. Yeah, have fun.

That is the location of the rules.ini file and the rest of the .ini files. If you're new to modding, read this.

QUOTE (Lin Kuei Ominae @ Dec 20 2009, 06:25 PM) just open the rules.ini with notepad or another simple text editor. then search for the key Paranoid and change its value to "no". alright thanks! but one last thing- how do you import the files onto the cd so you can use them? do you have to delete any of the other files that you extracted and changed?

Ur new so i'll give u some slack, all u have to do is put the new rules.ini in to the tibsun main folder and it should work. (Note: If u decide to play online, you have to take the rules.ini out of the tibsun main folder otherwise you won't be able to play online, cause it would give you an unfair advantage.)
And as for adding new colors, i can't help u there, i myself made a catastrophic FAIL at trying to make a new color (black) and it messed up all my other colors, so if anyone could help us out???

You can't add new colors, only modify existing ones. It has downfalls though, the name of the color and actual color in the name (EG. Blue) will remain the same. To change the name of the color you need some knowledge with the ResHacker tool for editing Language.dll but I really suggest you don't even bother playing about with this unless you really know what you're doing. As for changing the font color itself it requires an EXE hack which I also don't recommend doing for the same reason as ResHacker.

QUOTE (CabalCore @ Dec 21 2009, 05:38 PM) Use Tibed to edit the rules of tiberian sun, its an editor that is easy to install and its safe , it also edits the firestorm expansion to tiberian sun. Worst advice ever. Don't ever go near TibEd full stop! It makes a mess of .ini files, it's highly recommended you edit .ini files manually using a text editor. Simple stock ones like Notepad or Wordpad are fine, though some people prefer a bit more advanced text editors like Notepad++

i'll say it again, just put your new rules.ini into the tibsun main folder (C:Program Files/EA Games/C&C The First Decade/Tiberian Sun/Sun) and thay should work

QUOTE open xcc mixer. extract rules.ini onto a wordpad document. change paranoid to no. drag and drop new rules.ini into tibsun.mix? nothing happens. am i doin a newbie mistake? srry for all the questions 1. Open XCC Mixer. 2. Navigate to your Tiberian Sun directory within XCC Mixer. 3. Open tibsun.mix. 4. Open local.mix. 5. Find rules.ini in the large list, right click on it, and choose Extract. 6. Choose your Tiberian Sun directory as the destination. 7. Open up the file you just extracted in Notepad. 8. Change Paranoid to no. Save. 9. Open Tiberian Sun. As long as rules.ini is loose in your Tiberian Sun directory, the game will read it.

We have a tutorial for it: http://www.tiberiumweb.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=9Note: Adding a third side is a bit messy and it requires some workarounds and disables some game features (like the "Short Game" multiplayer option).

QUOTE (^Rampastein @ Dec 23 2009, 01:44 AM) We have a tutorial for it: http://www.tiberiumweb.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=9Note: Adding a third side is a bit messy and it requires some workarounds and disables some game features (like the "Short Game" multiplayer option). for some reason, the buildings i want to build with my new team are darker in where you choose to start building them (on the right side of the screen) and when i click on them, it says "building" but it doesnt' really build them. i can't make a base because of this. do you know how i could fix this? what happened was i changed some of the civilian things to go onto my team, and so if i put the power plant from my team as owned by me and nod, they can build it, and i cant. if i put the nod power plant as owned by me and Nod, they can build it, i can see it on my screen, but i cant click on it or build it. please help if u know what's wrong!

QUOTE (^Rampastein @ Dec 24 2009, 03:37 AM) I don't remember how I fixed that when I made a third side (I've removed it, because I don't want to lose the Short Game multiplayer option). Try making seperate power plants for the third side and Nod, and give your side's Power plant Owner=<ThirdSide>,Civilian (all buildings which the third side can build must have Civilian listed as one of its owners). Hehe... the civilian thing worked except for the new team's power plant still is unclickable... thanks for the tip though
