Help with an AVI file not playing, for some reason none of my media players will play it Options

Ok well ill get straight into the problem. Recently i got some video clips in AVI file type of the show The Boondocks. (a great comedy cartoon) and well for some odd reason Windows Media Player, Winamp, Quicktime, realplayer, and i wanna say theres another one but i cant remember but those are the biggest ones (some of which i dont even know why i have), arent playing these Boondocks Episodes that are in AVI format.

and what really makes me confused is that WMP will play the TS games movies when they are in AVI format but for some reason wont play these episodes of the Boondocks

HOWEVER WMP and Winamp both play it.....but not the video part so i can here it just cant see it. WMP just plays the visualizations that it normally play when i play an MP3.

so does anyone have any suggestion or know why and can tell me what to do to make these work or what i need to get in order to make these work?

any help would be appreciated.

Do you have the correct codecs in order to play the files?

Well i had a simmular problem before, the way i worked it was copy the cartoon you want to watch onto a blank CD first.
Then put the CD in and it should autoplay.
Well it does for me whenever i download films, cartoons etc.

You're indeed most likely missing the right codecs. I suggest you install the Download K-Lite Mega Codec Pack. This will allow you to play almost all video files and even lets Windows Media Player play Real and Quicktime video's.

An alternative is Video LAN. This program uses it's own codecs and can play almost all video files (it's very useful for playing partial video files, seeming WMP usually can't play them).

Thanks for the help guys. Although I haven't tested it to see if it works now.

I figured i might be missing the codec.......but then i tested the last Nod movie for TS which i had in AVI format and it played everything the video and the audio (provided it played very roughly though) but then these clips wouldnt play. but whatever it should work now.

Well the vid you can't play would be encoded differently. Encoded using a different codec Hence you need the correct codecs to play the file.

just get VLC, it can play pretty much everything, including DvD's, and is a great all around program
