aahh, the flaws of vista are many. i was considering buying it, but then i didn't. why? i remembered i have all the halflife games in a box in my basement (which i am very tempted to unearth and promptly install)

Yay for the orange box! Though I don't play TF2 much, it's not my type of game really. But Portal and HL2:EP2 are well worth it.

You can run Steam and other XP and younger games on Vista. You need to set the compatibally for the installation, BEFORE you install it. Just right click the INSTALL.exe or the other program that installs the game. Then go to PROPERTIES, click the COMPATIBILITY TAB and look down, then choose which one the game came out on and click it, some games like for 95, 98 and NT, you need to disable the visual themes and DPI settings.

Ok, i reinstalled Steam, turned on Comp mode XP SP 2, turned off visual themes and changed the DPI settings. The first time it got to 26%, then it said that Steam was already running, and then it stopped. Now I'm retrying to update it, but it doens't do a thing (it keeps standing at 0%)...

I occasionally have such a problem. The only way I've found to get around it is to restart it loads of times. Which can be a bit tiresome.

Also the orange box is totally awesome.
